Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

I think you should ask JerryS. He is the resident genius on egg colors he said as best I recall “ once the brown goes In the blue is gone forever.

That’s why they use white egg breeds whe adjusting legbars .. i.e rose comb legbars.

Ooh, I love the passion of this group! Where can I find this JerryS? I would love to browse through his posts :thumbsup

Ooooh I should totally pick his brain about that some day... I had some black breasted red Auracauna, and I always wondered if ameracauna was from the south american land race or a mix of Auracauna and some other breeds that the ameracauna came from... If I remember right the coloncas is progenitor to Auracauna or nah? Auracauna were definitely a challenge for a first timer high school kid to start learning about breeding chickens with...
Since you pinged him maybe he will tell us a story!

If he does, just be good to him, he's a friend and part time Minnesotan, which means he is shy and sensitive like me.

He is way smarter than I ever could be...
Awww shucks . Making me blush . The Americana was created from Easter Eggers . In the late 60's and early 70's hatcheries were selling them as Aracana the Easter egg chicken . So officially told we used Aracana . Some of us felt the lethal tuft gene was a deal breaker . Along with fertility problems due to rumpless . So we set out to get the tailed , muffed and bearded type into the standard . We were told they would never be admitted as Araucana . So a new name was chosen . Recognized color patterns were developed .

Progenitor breeds for cream legbars are a little barred rock and a lot of leghorn ( plus 'chilean hen, whoever she was). You could better get away with outcrossing to a golden crele leghorn, but you would definitely have to watch out for loosing crests, plus egg color would be diluted with only one blue gene. Cream can be worked back in easily enough with such a cross. Breed back can fix as long as you watch your babies and cull heavily.
Good luck!

Any idea where I might find golden crele leghorn chicks or hatching eggs?
