Cream Legbars

OK pulled the egg out and did some checking. Color didn't change with wetting. Egg was infertile which surprises me. Outside of egg shell, light color on left dark color on right: Flipped them over and stripped off the membrane and was surprised- the one that was lighter on the outside was slightly DARKER on the inside! So I guess it was just a glitch in the hen's system and somehow the color on that end of the egg got drawn to the exterior of the egg.
Cool!

Well, I finally got my first pullet eggs from the pullet below. She has laid an egg every day for three days now which seems very productive for a pullet. Each of the eggs weighed 1.1 ounces and are OAC179 in color. While she has gold fringed feathers in her crest, the hackle feathers do show some cream influence.

She is more mature than her hatch mate which is much more cream but she is getting closer to POL.

Congrats!

Yes the first one is definitely gold hackled, and the second definitely cream. Do you have a boy in with them? Hopefully you will be able to hatch lots of pretty cream babies in a few months (or next spring with winter around the corner!)

Yes I have two boys with them now. One received positive comments for his stature and structure but is high on chestnut and low on cream. He has a nice comb but a "thumbprint" indication on one side of his comb.

The other has now come into sexual maturity and while his form is still taking shape, he has less chestnut. He is less mature in this picture. He does have a small twist toward the front of his comb.

This guy was removed from breeding consideration and is being used for cross experiments.

No perfect birds but a good start especially with that one pullet.

Ok. I have my first 4 cream legbars just hatched today with 6 more pipped now. 4 are starting to zip now. They are all looking great. But how can i tell if they are cockeral or pullet?

For the 4th day in a row, my pullet that started laying has another egg. Starting to get incrementally larger. I checked the fertility on her first three eggs and all were fertile.

Once they dry off it will be obvious. The boys have a blurry back and a big spot on their head and the girls have a very defined stripe all the way from their head to their tail and very dark eyeliner.
