Cream Legbars

Thanks everyone for responding. It is really awesome that people are willing to spend the time to comment. I totally understand that people's opinions are just that and I can already see that people have varying points of view (just like in any group of people). I won't be making any decisions based on other's opinions. I am just trying to learn stuff!

Thanks for the link to the photo gallery too lonnyandrinda. I think I have been there already but I love looking at pictures of them so it was fun to do it again.

Hi Chickat. The pullet has what I think looks like silvery wings. I will post a pic and see if it shows what I mean. I could be just describing it incorrectly or she could be a a pullet with what sounds like bad coloring!

I appreciate the pictures you posted. Everything helps me understand things a little more. I fully admit that I am work in progress but figured there is no better way to learn than to put it out there. So all of this is good for me to think about and look at.

I have no intention of getting rid of any of the cream legbars I have right now. Especially since they are so young and I will probably keep them even if they are horrible representations of the breed as adults

because I am a chicken pet owner still and just starting to dip my toes into the chicken breeding world.

I do understand that males can and do have some coloring so I am not too worried. I have no idea what any of them are going to look like but I decided that if I take notes and pictures of their development and hear what others think it will probably help me in the future. At least it can't hurt. I find it fun and interesting either way.

Does "squirrel tail" refer to the curling of the tail feathers or the angle of the tail feathers? I have seen the term but I am not entirely sure that I understand what it means.

So here is a pic of the little pullet with the "silver":

And here is a pic of the other one without the "silver":

I don't know if that first pic is good enough to see what I am talking about or I could just be making things up in my head!
They are both Pretty chicks

I see what you are saying about silver in the wings now....I bet it will grow away. I even saw a male with some salt & Pepper in his wings - like the females have -- and I was surprised by that! Wondered if his head spot had lied to me.

What you are doing -- documenting, posting, asking, studing and growing out your chickens is a fabulous way to learn tons about the breed! Good job! :O)

These are my youngest chicks. I have 3 boys of my own and 1 girl and 11 Rees line legbars and 1 mystery chick. The other mystery chick died. I took them off the heat lamp last week and they have access to the outdoors in this brooder. They are cuties.

These are 4 of the Rees line boys.

These are 4 of the Rees line girls

These are 2 of my own boys.

thanks for your post, the comparisons are really helpful.

It is exciting to watch them grow and develop. All my youngest hatches are with new owners - but my older ones will be 12-weeks this Sunday - One of them had almost pure white face and belly when she was tiny:

now she is the darkest of those three females....Something about the 'melanizers' that I haven't found answers to as yet. The important thing is healthy and happy chicks and yours look great. Also, from what I can see, I like the engineering of your coop!

Seems to me that they really do a lot of changing as they grow up.
Hi ChicKat, thanks for the post, I have never seen that coloration on a CL chick! It is really a striking combination. Has anyone else seen this in their flock? Interesting to read how her colors evolved.

I would love some feed back on my roosters at this point (realizing they are still filling out). They are late march boys.
In the interest of my sanity I will post one bird at a time.

Here is Professor. He was my least favorite by type a month ago. But then he got sick and lived in my house for a week and now I'm attached to him. I also think his type has improved, but it may just be wishful thinking :)

Uncrested rooster. He's was kind of a jerk to the other chickens, but is much better now that I've moved him to a "bachelor pad". He is uncrested, but more substantial than the other two.

Zazoo Zazaa (my 4 year old son named him, apparently that is the name of the two zebras on Peppa Pig)
This was my favorite a few weeks ago, but now he seems a little lanky.
