Cream Legbars

X2 I agree I would really like to hear some of the similarities that are being seen between previous CL flocks and the Rees line.

@tdhenson86 if you have the time to give us a few examples of what you are seeing or even post some pictures of the differences you see, that would be very helpful to us all.
X3 I need all the visuals I can get!

I bought 6 rees ccl from rare breed auction. They were 4 weeks old. I processed them and cooked them. They tasted exactly like store chicken. I think i got ripped off. I cant understand why they are so pricey.

Did you purchase them for meat? If so, there must have been a mistake somewhere in the ad. Of course you can eat Cream Legbars, and many culls get eaten, but they are primarily valued for production numbers of blue eggs :D they are also Autosexing, can be sexed at hatch generation after generation, and were the first cream variety discovered by Professors Punnett and Pease almost 75 years ago in the UK. Because GFF paid thousands of dollars to import them, the prices are still high, but some are coming down.

Thanks ! I couldn't tell the darker two apart -and now I know to look for barring on the tail - now that you point it out - it seems obvious.

Also - I know it wasn't a useless hatch ... I can use these for body type - and find another breeder for good crests and feather color ... but I'm most interested in strong BLUE egg color ....

Thanks all.

Tim,

You can't post that you have Rees line birds and that you can see a big difference with out sharing all of your discoveries.

Please post photos of you flock. If you can describe or show comparisons between your Rees line and your earlier line stock that would great to.

Do you have any weights on you birds. That is one of the things that I would be very interested in.

Regards,

To be fair here are some of mine.

Here is a 2012 F1 cockerel.

This is one of his 2013 son's. He has terrible serration on his comb and a high tail, but other than that was just what I was looking for. He weighed in at 5 lbs 14 oz at 9 months old and is out of our hen that lays the largest Legbar eggs.

This is a 2013 pullet from the first cockles. She wasn't as good in type as others in her hatch group but is the most productive of the three (3) 2013 pullets that we kept and lays the largest and the bluest eggs of the three. We kept her to help with the flocks color.

Mine are not quite old enough yet to make those comparisons. What I've noticed so far, though, are that the crests are much better on them and the coloring is much better. So far, they're only a month old. So, I can't make too many broad statements yet. ;)

My Rees line trio is a little older than yours (roughly 12ish weeks of age) and I haven't seen any real differences just yet. I do notice the Rees line seems very pale in the legs and beaks, also they seem(to me any how) smaller in size and weight and also maturing slower than my CL I have here that are in similar in age.

From what I hear the Rees line is not consistent in the offspring they produce. So we still have no way of knowing just yet what we will get from them until many of us grow them out to maturity.

I don't plan to make any judgments between the Rees line and the other lines until they are closer to maturity and I can see a full difference.

I hope you will post some pics of your Rees birds as they mature I know we are all excited to see how this line will turn out.

I also plan to post updated pics of my trio as well.

I am hoping this was supposed to be funny... :) The taste of a chicken would be more impacted by their diet then their breed! :)
