Cream Legbars

Pink Eggs from a Cream Legbar

I have a cream legbar hen who's laying light pinkish brown eggs. Her sisters lay light sky blue eggs. She is fully crested and has more of the cream color than her sisters who are more redish. Shes also been laying an egg a day since she started laying (not missed a day in 3 months) while her sisters lay 5-6 a week.

Has anyone ever had a Cream Legbar who lays an egg thats not blue?

Thanks,
Deborah

Egg shell is white with pinkish brown bloom.

That's an excellent layer!!! -- did she hatch from a blue or blue-green egg, or did she come to you as a chick?

Those are all great layers! There were one to two others who reported other than blue/green eggs last year. It was discovered that a small number of the birds were not carrying two copies of blue egg genes (OO). So if the parents were Oo, they could produce some offspring who were oo = tint or other than blue layers. You can use that tint colored layer to test your roosters for OO or Oo genes ( to weed out the tint).

Thanks everyone... they came to me as chicks so I'm not sure what the color of the egg was. They were from a major reputable hatchery (my grand parents ordered from that hatchery) so my guess is they would only sit blue eggs.

She looks just like a CL but a bit bigger than the other two that lay blue eggs. She is also a little less flighty than the others and egg color is not a big deal for me so I might breed her to see if her babies lay blue eggs as a test for my roo.
To me the pink egg is just as pretty as the blue one.

:)

Automatic culls for me this year are wry tail, squirrel tail, any other deformity, attitude, lack of crest, and health issues. In terms of color (if it shows up) I will cull for red earlobes, wrong color legs, recessive white, and lack of ig/ig.

Plans for next year include working on increasing size and proper shape in all lines, while keeping an eye on tails and color.

Bob again

Any thought on how they are developing?
Hi DoubleMM,
I like Bob's full chest (is there a better way to indicate that...) and the boys all seem to have nice tail angles.
I also like what I can see of your set-up...looks like you might have a plan...

Does it seem like Autumn made an appearance this weekend?

Does anyone elses CLs NEVER stop crowing? lol. It never stops all day long one crow after another continuously until just before dark and its higher pitched than my other males. Makes me cringe when I hear him
