Cream Legbars

Aloha Sol2go,

Thatʻs funny, the chickens at my school donʻt eat the lilikoʻi vines. And theyʻre wild and hungry! Iʻm looking for something that will grow wild and fast that they like to eat. They killed my sweet potato bush. Ate it to the nub. Haha. Almost anything green.

Aloha, Puhi

Thank you K! I just got back from researching it, wow, kudzu is good for something!

That seems like a high protein value? Is the calcium value substantial as well?

Is it possible to get comparative data for Rainbow Swiss Chard, Kale, and maybe the Passionfruit Vine?

My hens decimate the Chard, my roosters don't care much for it. I wondered if it is because the Chard is a good source of calcium? If that is accurate, does it matter if it is raw or cooked as far as absorption for chickens?

Thanks to anyone who has info.
Thanks for your note too Brada Puhi. Maybe liliko'i is common in Hawaii, but happily brings a taste of passion and Aloha to California =)

Hi @Kaylish, I pop into the NorCal thread, although it is impossible to keep current with all the posts! @ChicKat thanks for the plant/snack suggestion, I'll look that one up. To everyone who had a sudden chill, hope your chickens adjust quickly to the next season! As ChicKat said, temperature changes are all relative, it must be very difficult to relate to such a dramatic swing! @dretd, do they just get too cold to relocate back to the coop? Mine are very stubborn about their routines... I have heard a vet say that when exotic birds become too hot they shut down and don't drink even though that would be the appropriate response. Here's my hen Spot (she's more like a dog) craving something green to eat (she jumped straight up). While she is not a CL, I have noticed the CL's and Ameraucanas really do search out the greens. If they are not eating grape leaves, they are devouring the leaves of the passionfruit vine (Liliko'i?) - maybe @Brada Puhi could tell me if that is a typical chicken snack in Hawaii? (I couldn't find anything that said it was unhealthy). Meanwhile, I have some new CL boys, here's one straight comb, let's hope he's double for cream =) Here's another juvenile with a straight comb. and an old guy =)
Pretty boys! And I know what you mean about keeping up on the NorCal thread, gets pretty crazy sometimes

Can I get some opinions of this cockerel. I have about 10 and will get pics of others later. Just thought I would start with this one. I'm considering keeping this one because of the crest and straight comb (so far). I don't like the white in his tail feathers.
