Cream Legbars

I personally wouldn't put them all together yet. Especially depending on the condition of your battery hens.

I like to quarantine my new chickens for at least 3 weeks. It is a stressful time and introducing new chickens that may carry things yours aren't exposed to could make them sick. In my opinion battery hens are at an even greater disadvantage and at 19 weeks old the cockerel will be interested in mating which could further stress them.

I thought as much, ill give them a few weeks. What do i look for in a great CL rooster?

I am starting to really dislike my Cream Legbar cock. Although he is very nice looking and well behaved to people and his hens, he is just plain OBNOXIOUS!!! I almost cant stand it. I am seriously surprised I haven't gotten complaints because of him. Any time a hen lays an egg he goes off running to find her all the while doing loud high pitch goose honking, and then that sets the other males off and I then have 4 males goose honking and then some of the hens get flustered and they start honking... This happens repeatedly throughout the day

Its almost as though the males cant tell the difference between the egg song and an alarm call. I don't get it

This is probably my neighbors reactions

and soon it might be

Does anyone elses male birds do loud obnoxious high pitched goose honks repeatedly any time a hen does an egg song?

Yes, mine does too. Although my Salmon Favorelles cockerel does the same thing so I am not sure if he is particularly obnoxious or not. We live out in the boonies and I run a dog boarding facility from my home so I imagine that I am immune to a certain amount of noise!

My CL rooster is the perfect gentleman. He hardly ever crows, I have never seen him rush the hens. Of course, my hens only lay eggs once every blue moon.

Seriously, I have 2 CL hens and I get 3-4 eggs a week. I feed them game bird layer feed, I only give them oats as scratch now.

My other roosters could learn a thing or two from the CL rooster. I have only seen him fight with another rooster once, through the fence and that was with my CX rooster. I do keep the CL's in an enclosed pen though to keep the babies pure.

My other roosters behave like you said.

I suppose it is just a male thing. I have had males for a few years and have heard it every once in a while, but this Spring, OH BOY, its something else. I live in close proximity to quite a few houses so while it doesn't bother me completely. When I think of my neighbors that's when I get flustered myself because I am sure they can hear it. I never wanted to be "THAT" neighbor, and I really hope Im not. But I think It might be time to cut back on the amount of males I have, that might help.

I know if I had neighbors nearby it would bother me too! I hate being a bad neighbor because I have had my share of those and I wouldn't wish them on anyone. I bet lowering your numbers will be helpful.

So those of you interested in my CL broody, lol, I moved her back to the old coop with her buddies and she immediately wanted to stay on the nest. I moved her to the end nest box and set up a pen around her so she could be in peace. Yesterday I put 8 CL eggs under her that were in the incubator and she has been very committed so far. We shall see!

Here she is:

Very nice set up!!! And your coop looks spacious. I hope she sticks with it and is a good mum. Definitely keep us posted on her progress.

Another small hatch complete, 7 eggs went into lockdown and 4 hatched. ALL 4 chicks that hatched were MALE. Im up to 12 male CL chicks to evaluate this year and 8 females chicks.
