Cream Legbars

How odd. I misread that then. Oh well

The original Legbar males all had light spots on their heads. I'm not sure why the British SOP leaves it out now, and includes light spots for the females (when not all of the females have headspot patches over there). There are a few girls over here who have had substantial spots on their heads (like bright spots, not just a lightened patch), but we've been encouraged not to use them as breeders or we might lose the autosexing feature.

That's why I was confused because I had read that both sexes could have the white spots and to pay more attention to the clearly defined stripes on back and a clearly defined facial stripe. I'll grow these out anyway, but was hoping for pullets as I already spent a lot of time tracking down an adult male with the proper cream coloring. Oh well got another dozen in scheduled to hatch Sunday.

Sure, that's understandable! I'm going to post a pic to show the difference between a male headspot and a female one (not all females have one, and I'd like to breed it out of my girls eventually to make it obvious which are male and female). You may want to mark your properly faded/muted boys for possible future breeders. Best wishes on your next hatch! And if your boys grow out cream and lightly colored in the shoulder/saddle you may be able to find buyers for spares pretty quickly.

Ok guys, just had first hatch of Legbars and I want to be sure...chipmunk pattern means pullet?



So there's 4 pullets in this photo?

Or does the white dot take precedence and there's no pullets?

I see all boys also. Sad to say.

Greenfire Chicks arrived for me today. A friend of mine ordered some for me along with her Rhodebar and SFHs. Picking out the Cream Legbar from the Rhodebar is a tough job for me but I think I have separated them into 15 Rhodebar and 7 Cream Legbar. I am going to grow them out a bit to make sure there isn't a mixup.

Hello everyone, I have a Roo and a hen that I need to sell. I only have the pair. My health has taken a turn for the worst and must decrease my flock. I am also selling my duck but keeping only a few. I am in Brainerd Minnesota. I have no idea what to ask for them.

So sorry to hear that Triplell. Hope your health gets better. You might try posting a pic here for people to share around. If they are good quality they will get snapped up quick. Hope you are still able to follow along with the breed SOP development! Any chance you might be able to get back into them again later?

Thanks! One of the girls looks a bit wobbly. She has drank and eaten and when I picked her up she had some pasty butt going on. Cleaned her up and hoping for the best.

Give her a little vitamins- either poultry vitamins in the water or a drop of baby vitamins (Poly-vi-sol). That always seems to help mine come out of that.

I put some Save a chick probiotic in their water. She is looking more comfortable now. Lying down instead of standing up with her beak nearly resting on the ground.
