Cream Legbars

They are all such beautiful boys. Its going to be a tough decision for you. They have such great color. I cant wait to see more pics of them.

I need to decide who I am going to breed from and who I am going to merge into my layer flock. Could I get y'all's feedback on my thought?

I have two CL cockerels. They both have the same faults - tail angle is too high, too much color, and a bit of flop to the comb - and in fact, look almost identical. Aragorn, however, has slightly less red to him, so I was going to use him for the time being.

Aragorn at 18 weeks. The sunlight makes his saddle feathers look less lemony than they actually are.

Faramir at 23 weeks

I have four pullets. Arwen is a definite gold hackled girl, so I was not going to breed from her.

Arwen

Galadriel is a definite keeper

Galadriel has a very bent toe, as do most of the others. I really think it must be due to some nutritional/environmental deficiency when they were chicks since I have never heard any other folks with 2013 GFF CLs having this issue, particularly to this extent. I used the same chick starter/grower I always use, but I intend to supplement future chicks with vitamins and brewers yeast.

I'm not sure whether to breed from my last two pullets.

Eowyn's build is similar to Galadriel's, but her hackles are not nearly as silver-y.

Eowyn

Rosie Cotton's hackles are the same as Eowyn's, but her crest is crazy and she is very petite in build.

Rosie Cotton at 18 weeks. She started laying at 22 weeks.

Three potential keepers together: Rosie Cotton, Galadriel, Eowyn

I am leaning towards breeding from Aragorn with Galadriel and Eowyn and moving the other three in with my mixed layers. Any opinions?

If I were to choose a hen to cull, it would be Rosy Cotton - I do not like small hens, and color is not a huge issue for me right now until my numbers and type improve. Unfortunately both of your cockerels have significant tail issues, I have had the same problem this summer (although with wry tail instead of such extreme angles) and am culling both the otherwise much-wanted and very nice birds affected - there are lots of extra cockerels around, and likely to be some better than that available.

Grey barring on shoulders and secondaries,

Good points. If I was closer to some of the folks on this thread, I'd pick up one of their cockerels in a heart beat. I figure I'll just grow out lots of the boys I hatch out and work on improving from there.
