Thank You to everyone that responded to my underline or bottom line (not sure which term is correct) question, I appreciate it. And yes like you @enola I have heard the term bowl shape also from the heritage threads, the Plymouth Rock specifically call for a gravy bowl shape. I just wasn't sure if the bowl shape applied to CL also, in my mind I pictured a somewhat unpronounced V underline, so I am glad it was mentioned.

Exactly, that's what I remember reading also. So makes sense that CL should have the bowl shape also.

I just realized today that I have culled all my Cuckoo Marams hens that quit laying last fall. The one I have left has a bowl shaped outline, nice tail set. The other three were "U" shaped with squirrel tails.......

Good observation! I will have to take a closer look at all my birds to see what the underlines look like. I never paid much attention. I like learning how to look at a bird and to really see what I have. Its a great learning process.

Thanks Chickin Pickin! My son took the pictures with his camera and they were so high resolution that I had to take screen shots to get them low enough res to post. Even so, they're still really clear. I think the pictures show the colors fairly true - i don't think he enhanced the colors on them, but his camera has so many bells and whistles, no telling. I was surprised when I saw them - the colors really do pop in these pictures, but I can't say they're not true to life.

I think I'm going to just breed them for fun. I have some friends who are waiting for me to hatch some, but none would ever be likely to show them. I'll be interested to see what egg color I get. The one egg I thought was from those hens was from a trespasser-imposter Easter Egger who got in their coop.

Chick Kat I laughed out loud about the Weasleys! You're right - I got the red headed stepchildren I guess. They were hatched first week of September so about 16-17 weeks?

Don't know about the head size. He has a ton of "hair" - thus the name McDreamy. LOL

Sol2 I'll try to get a picture of his wing - he's getting to big for me to catch him so I'll have to get lucky if I catch him.

Prefacing with I'm a complete novice and new to chickens this year I don't think I posted this here

I'm hoping to get some hatching eggs soon from another source. This is my one girl from the last dozen I bought. the 3 cockerels all had some serious flaws and are now freezer residents. This is about 3 weeks ago and she is squatting now She was a June hatch.

The pics were when she was being wind blown and I have a hard time telling size on her because she is with my Delaware and Buff Orps (she looks so small with them) I'm wondering if she would be considered more silver She is supposed to be Cream but I'm not seeing it in her hackles. Love her crest though.

I got her for the blue eggs so we will see how that turns out the egg she hatched from was a pretty blue so I'm hoping that she will carry on with that.

Hi Caychris, we share the Northern California thread and I noticed your pullet there too.
I wouldn't say she looks silver. I would like to see another view of her hackle feathers. At this point her hackles look cream to me, but I would say you have a lot of melanization and red enhancers in the mix. I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

I do have one female just bout the identical age -- we can compare notes as they grow and when first egg(s) arrive! :O)
