Cream Legbars

Well of my 4 chicks it was definitely 2&2 but one of the girls has a leg problem. We are trying to treat splayed leg but i think it might be a bit more serious. Her legs are banded together now and she can stand and hobble around but the 1 bad leg is definitely not working right.

She is able to get up and move around now and is a bit happier than when we had her "trapped" where she couldn't move on the leg.

We put a sock over a small container putting holes in the sock with her legs through the holes and the legs banded together under the sock. That way she could get the benefit of the banding and still sit up and eat and drink. She became rather despondent at the arrangement after a day or so. So we took her out of it and let her try and stand on her own with the legs banded together (something she couldn't do earlier)

Not sure if the banding or the bad leg makes her unsteady now but she definitely can stand better and move better than the first day or so.

My daughter named her faith. I don't plan to breed her but she may be part of my backyard layers if she can survive. I was dreading having to put her down till this morning if she continues to improve like this Ill be ok with a "gimpy" chicken running around my yard. I already have a half blind Delaware.

Glad you are making progress. Since they are growing and developing a LOT during the first few weeks...she may just surprise you and be active and normal by the time she is a month or two old.

Quote: Right! It sure would be nice! This morning was below zero, but we are in a warming trend where our daytime highs are supposed to be above freezing for the next week after today. Spring seems like maybe it is on the way!

I got my delivery from Greenfire yesterday and am so excited! They're so cute! I ordered 9 pullets and 1 cockerel. They sent me an extra one which is almost all yellow with a white spot in his little noggin. He is a lot lighter than the other little cockerel. The pullets all look like little chipmunks with dark stripes but this little yellow one is much different. He has a little bit of gray on his back. I'll take a picture when I get home. He looks like the yellow chick on Greenfires CL page so I'm wondering/hoping he is a CL? Are CL Roos usually yellow as chicks?

Congrats on your babies. So much fun! I guess it it possible your yellow chick is a white sport cockerel? If it is CL at all? It doesn't sound like the usual cockerel chick color.
