Cream Legbars

They look young and like they will really fill out in a few weeks. Tails are set a bit high, but that might be because of how wild they are. I like the barring, nice and even. That comb on the first picture is really nice, plus he has a cute little crest, I wanna see him when he finishes filling out and gets his full big boy feathers. The bigger crested boy will make bigger crested daughters, these look similar to mine. Gonna say gold crele colored too.
Good earlobes. Awkward points on the combs of the others, but not floppy so still workable. Let them get bigger and then I want to see them again, especially that one with the best ever comb on top, I'm rooting for him.

and here I was hoping that since they hatched in march they would be big enough Now to decide dinner guests.... sigh o well I will bow to your knowledge and be a little more patient. lol

If you have a bunch of cockerels you need to have a plan for thinning the flock. The flock is much more enjoyable when you keep it properly managed and thinned, so yes processing those 6-month-old cockerels is always worth it. Some years when we were trying to do larger hatches to get more selection for breeders were would start culling cockerels as young as 6 weeks old to use as Poussin. I breed Black Copper Marans for 5+ years and it takes about 2 Legbars to make the meal of one Marans. I look at that as a bonus though because it means I can grow out twice as many Legbars and I can Marans so the Legbar flock selection is twice as good. Two Legbar cockerels will usually fit in the crockpot just fine. It isn't much extra work to put two birds in to cook that just one. With the Poussin everyone gets their own individual bird. We can hatch tons of chicks when we are eating a half dozen poussin at a single meal. Yes...the taste like chicken. No, they will not make a Thanksgiving dinner for a dozen people if you only cook one.

My plan to eat the extras still holds. I just want to make sure I am not eating the one that would make the best breeder. Its one cut that can't be undone.

Oh man, I'm wanting to enter a legbar for the club but my roosters are gold crele and my pullets are a bit young (although this year I got some cream pullets!) and my hens are molting! I am so torn!
