Creating a new breed

Wow you guys all wrote alot on this topic.
I love the Ideas.

I think the old breeds should be preserved to, but that doesn't mean you can't cross your birds once in a while to creat something new. And if you are the only one that likes that cross you can eat your culls.

For exsample I want to creat Buff Laced Wyandotte (BLW) but to do that I need Gold laced Wyandottes so I will breed them to so now I am helping save GLW's that I wouldn't have even gotten if I didn't need them for BLW.

I like chickens that lay a good amount of eggs, get big anough to eat, Raise there own chicks, are friendly, forage good, look good, and can stand canadian weather. That is my kind of chicken. and I think that wyandottes fit that bill.

This is the way I feel. I love my houdan and would eventually like to have them looking like they should but I also love my Polish crosses, what will come of those is anybodies guess but you just never know. I have enjoyed checking in on this topic and would love to see more crosses.

i think any one working on preserving any breed especially rare ones should get a medal but you would have those breeds to preserve if not for thinkers like the ones above..... im just putting my toe in the water with BR's and NHR's and then experimenting with combinations of EE's....im not that adventurous

Hi! I'm fascinated by black-skinned birds and still headed toward blue/splash giant dark-skinned Naked Neck blue/green eggers.
I have some large lovely blue/splash dark-skinned frizzle birds coming from my NN Frizz Green-egger pen, so I'm rolling with that flow.

Hi! Yes! I have a couple of black-skinned Frizz pullets with nice foot feathering (I was selecting for clean legs, but when I back-crossed, feather legs popped out). We were just admiring them this afternoon and wondering if that was yet another avenue to persue.

i've been thinking about crossing a polish with an EE. polish easter eggers! crested, muffed and throwing all colored eggs-white, tans/pinks, greens and blues!

i'd love to throw in some foot feathering too. (i love the foot feathered breeds)

i still like some of the heritage breeds. would love next spring to get the white houdans from a farm the next town over from us. but my luck i would end up with all roos! (out of 6 mottled houdans i had 1 pullet)

My chickens are so confused one of my Salmon Fav's thinks is a German Spitzhauben and allows the roo to mount her regularly she follows them all around its scary to think what they would look like
