Creating Autosexing EE

To everyone who is interested,

My concept of auto-sexing is based upon manuscripts I have read concerning the subject. Many of the people who post do not understand the concept.

Tim

I´m sure this was directed at me, and if you wish to debate against me, I´m game. I am well aware of the concept. and if you want engage with me on a genetic debate, be ready(with sources) because I´ll be on top of my game.

No.

the Topic is "creating autosexing EE"

So here is what I’d like to create:
• Autosexing
• Dual Purpose
• Blue Egg Laying

You can not have gold and silver in a cross and in this case both male and female must be gold. Both birds must be gold.

Tim

No.

both gold and silver can be used as autosexing and homozygous barred golden males(S/s+ B/B) can be autosexed.

example: if you cross a Welbar rooster over a silver welbar hen. the hens will be gold and and roosters will be golden, both autosexable

The cream gene is a part of this birds genetic makeup and is there to augment the lighter down color. The cream gene was added to make the bird the an efficient auto-sexing breed.

Tim

No.

autosomal recessive cream(ig/ig) adds nothing meaningful to the autosexing traits of the legbar, autosexing birds like welbars(silver or gold), Silver Legbars, rhodebars, lack the cream gene and they are as good if not better(they dont have females with headspot like legbars do) than the cream legbar.

welbar chicks vs cream legbar chicks, it shows how meaningless is the cream gene at boosting the autosexable trait.

see the "Huge" difference? I dont. the females look just like any other gold wiltype female chick, and the Males look just like any other Homozygous(double barred) Males do..
Auto-sexing fowl are a breed of one variety. The male and female have the same genetic make up. If a person crosses two different breeds or varieties, then the chicks are not autosexing- they could be color sexed and be a sex linked cross but the offspring are not autosexing.

Tim
No.

Autosexing is a breeding Trait, not a single breed. source http://www.thefreedictionary.com/autosexing

gold legbar x cream legbar will give you autosexing chicks
silver legbar x cream legbar will give you autosexing chicks
Rhodebar x legbar(any legbar) will give you autosexing chicks
welbar x Rhodebar will give you autosexing chicks

Chicks from a cross of two autosexing pure breeds are also autosexing.source: http://www.steepleducks.co.uk/poultry.htm

"Could you use a Cream Legbar roo x Cuckoo Marans hens and get autosexing?" The answer is no. The chicks are hybrids and not a breed.

Tim
No.

again Autosexing trait is not exclusive to a breed, its a "trait" source http://www.memidex.com/autosexing

Cuckoo marans "should" be autosexable, but the Extended black e allele is almost imprevious to the effect of homzygous sexlinked barring, I say almost because with a keen eye you can spot the males and females, but this makes them semi-autosexing as average joe could not tell them apart the first time..

could a Legbar x cuckoo maran cross be sexed as normal cuckoo marans? yes, E/e+ B/B males will look just like E/E B/B males

An autosexing breed will be easily sexed by the down color of the offspring. There is very little room for error when telling the difference between a male and female. The sexing accuracy level of an autosexing breed should be 100%. A person could get 99% but any lower would be considered semi-autosexing. A novice should be able to tell the difference between a male and female with very little instruction.

Tim

at this stage some american cream legbars are semi-autosexing as they get dark males and females with headspot, I suspect an inhibitor of some sort to be running amok on some of this Green Farm lines, the weird thing is that their Rhodebars are 100 percent autosexable, at least all of the chicks I have seen posted in this forum.

how bad is this? source https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...group-standard-of-perfection/280#post_9760639

Dark males(despite being cream) and females with a headspot(its on their SOP). I wanted to get you thoughts on this subject(among other subjects) on the previous page. source https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/409884/creating-autosexing-ee/20#post_10143014

I know this is an older thread overall but I see some folks are posting here. I planned on making some rhodebar type birds using an ameraucana x barred rock rooster over RIR/buckeye hens but I got a flock of gold EE hens and figure this will be much easier since the EE chicks almost always have striped down compared to the buckeyes and rhode island reds. I was after a basic bigger auto sexing bird, I have legbars which I am working to improve egg production with so I will have more of an egg type autosexing bird, now with these I will have more dual purpose autosexing bird. I figure either way, I'll be producing easter eggers and have a market for the culls

hey keep us updated on your progress ok... thanks

Does anyone know, are golden cuckoo Marans autosexing?

thats easy.... the males will be much diluted that the hens, the females will be brownish with a head spot, the males will be much lighter in color with a headspot extending to the back

here check this gold cuckoo maran(s+ ER B)source https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/504443/golden-cuckoo-marans-chicks-sex-linked-pic#post_6407766
