Creator of the Labradoodle has major regrets...

That's so, odd. Usually larger dogs are harder to place so they charge less. Is that one local shelter, or are they all that way? We've got at least one for each county, and live at the crux of several so there are at least 4 shelters within 30 minutes. Not to mention the private rescues. Some rescues even waive the fee on old dogs and ones they've had a while. maybe your shelters could use a good person to show them some marketing skills and tricks to fundraise......

I do understand about having more peace of mind with a pup...shelters often have lots of puppies

I think our shelter gets $100 for a dog/pup adoption. INcludes spay/neuter shots, etc. Cats are free adoptions.

one designer dog thats starting to become popular is the mini saint bernard.... its a little taller then a besengi that breeds just being made for money its sad i under stand a lgd cross i understand the original purpose of laberdoodle to have a hyper allergenic dog that can be used as a service dog but when you start seeing the dog breed u created in a shelter or for sale on craigslist i would feel bad

Ok, just checked some local fees:
Shelter 1:
Cats and Kittens
Adult cats: $40
"Gift of a Lifetime" cats (cats 3 years or older): $25
Two cat buddies: $55.00
Unspayed/unneutered kittens: $40
Early spayed/neutered kittens: $125

Dogs and Puppies
Adult dogs over 35 pounds: $150
Adult dogs under 35 pounds: $250
Dogs that have been through the REBOUND training program: $300
Dogs 7 years and up: Half price
Puppies that will be over 35 pounds as adults: $225
Puppies that will be under 35 pounds as adults: $300

Shelter 2:
Puppies & Dogs

$250 Puppies 6 months & younger
$225 Small breed dogs (under 25 pounds)
$200 Dogs (25 pounds and over)

Kittens & Cats

$175 Kittens 6 months & younger
$150 Adult Cats (over 6 months)

Shelter 3:
Cat adoption fee is $80 and dog adoption fee is $100
Because of overcrowding, we are currently offering special prices for cat adoptions.

Adopt a cat and bring home a buddy free (applies to adult cats only)
$40 discount on adoption fee if adopting a full grown cat and a kitten
$30 discount on adoption fee if adopting 2 kittens

These include spay/neuter, shots, microchip, worming, feline FIV/leuk test for cats; some throw in free exams and food and collars. All in all, not really a bad price on adults animals that are "ready to go" and shouldn't need routine care for at least a year. But pushing it with $300 little dogs, IMO.
