The ones that I've had that are really solid black have turned out to be girls, mostly.

I don't know what to think about those orange legs. Wonder if they'll stay that way? I'd think something else got into the henhouse, if I had any breeds with yellow legs, but I don't! Just Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, and Ameraucanas.

Awesome!!! Hopefully lil blackie is a girl!

As for yellow legger, I dunno i really think its a purebred, i mean it looks like it, however from looking at feather site, it looks like theres other colors that can pop up, maybe this one gathered a genetic difference from a back breeding? Never knooow!

In any case, I'll be very interested to see if that color holds as this one grows.

THIS is what's great about having as many people as possible hatching your eggs--It might've taken me 20 hatches to come across something odd like that, and here you've found it your first time out!

LOL yeppers! I was reading that it may be from a wheatens marans color (i was just searching it online) some of the higher end breeders even see this from what Im reading and they cull them out of their flock. I dunno if I will or not, I'm going to see how it matures first

. Oddly enough they say that in all cases it's the females they've noticed having this....herrm! LOL!

Well, no matter what, let's keep track of that rascal! I've also heard some people practically equate excessive "straw" coloration in the hackles of the rooster to Wheatens. And I DID have several of those roos. I culled them from the Marans flock, but since the birds all came from the same place, you know the genetics are there.

Again, so glad to have hatching partners!

Whew! 2 straight days of hatching! Who knew it could be so time consuming!

Final NinjaPoodle chick count: 7 little fluffers! I just "hatched" the last two a couple of hours ago. They were totally "glued" into their shells and definitely weren't coming out on their own. Poor little peeps. I just got them washed off since they were coated in a hard membrane and couldn't fluff or really move at all.

Some are still in the bator and the rest are in the brooder. Cuteness overload! I got one Maran chick (not sure if it's crossed or not?) and the rest hatched out of Orp eggs.

I have a bunch of SQ bantams too!

Pics tomorrow! Thanks for letting me share the thread Monarc!!

If the dark egg had the letter 'M' on it, then it was for sure a purebred. If not, then I'm not sure, because I didn't start marking them with an M until a few days' collecting had gone by.

Awww, I'm sorry. I had that happen last hatch, with a little Orp. On the second day, it just started crying and crying, and I culled it when it was obvious it wasn't going to make it.
