Crele Bantam Cochin Project

chasehope- thanks for posting the pics and encouragement ! I once thought about getting some Golden Cuckoo Marans at one time, but I am such a bantam chicken person.

I am a bantam cochin person...but my husband layed down the law and said if I was going to have chickens I needed to find some big ones I liked! So I have BBS Copper Marans and Golden Cuckoo marans. I also have some standard cochins, and I was able to sneak in some blue barred bantam cochins, and mille fleur bantam cochins with out him saying anything! When I ask for more coops he will probably say something I am sure! The Golden Cuckoos are very much a project too, my original flock has clean legs, and my new rooster (the one pictured) has feathered legs! I am finally making progress! Now I just need to raise about 100 chicks from them to keep the best!

Well the latest update from me on my Crele project is the first set of 11 eggs from my Crele rooster over 3 Barred split to buff hens and 1 Crele hen went into the incubator today! 21days to see what hatches! There is a chance some of the eggs were fertilized by a Buff Barred rooster but either way they will be cuties I'm sure

Sooo dont be mad but I forgot to upload pics of the hatch.. oops! Only got 6 out of the 11 to hatch but that was my bad

had temp fluxs a few times so Im just happy that I got 6 to hatch! All were fertile then 2 stopped around day 7ish the rest went into lockdown but when I opened the other 3 they stopped developing around day 14-15 when I started having temp issues

Ah well. Have more in going into lockdown tonight and more in due for L/D on 2/4.

Had 4 hatch out black with white spot on there head (typical Barred), one hatch solid black, and one hatch yellow with very light grey/black pattern

The whole hatch (pic inclueds 2 partridge/mfc and 3 mottled babies)

The Smallest (and sweetist) Black with White spot

Yellow with faint almost chipmunk stripes.. I know they dont all show up on cam but they are so faint I shocked the ones did show.

I'm guessing the Buff Barred still had influence on the ladies eggs with this hatch but the one due on the 4th will be free and clear all the Crele boys so we will see.

Unless theres leakage when they feather Im thinking the Blacks with simply be normal barred and the yellow maybe a dirty Buff Barred?? or maybe its by the Crele.. dont know till they feather out.. will keep everyone posted

Well had 4 Crele eggs I put in this clutch and all 4 Hatched

I have one that's a very interesting down color! As soon as they are done drying and fluffing up I'll get pics of them as I got to put them in the brooder.

I will just sit back and enjoy all your beauties because there is no way I am taking on another bantam Cochin project.

I do, however, have Golden Cuckoo Marans and if I squint both eyes and move my head a bit I can pretend the Marans are smaller and rounder!
