As we all know there is more to any animal than just color. I have never seen you advertise or sell black orps, so Obviously you had to choose carefully what LINE you would include in this venture. Since there are only a handful of top quality show breeders of Orps, I cannot see why they should not be recognized. Unless you have a crop of Blacks out behind the barn lol.

I apologize if I asked more than you are willing to say or do. I just read your most recent posting on your project and advertisement in your signature. So I thought this was going public.

I have researched the already established Lavender lines, and apprciate the overall strive for quality and acknowledgement of what went into those lines, along with all those other wonderful colors available to us.

Hi Dilly, the black Orp hens are being donated by a good friend of ours for the summer. They will be returned to there private owner after the Job has been done.

These are from straight black lines, no blue or splash in his stock. Very soon it will just be a grow out project to selection time.

Thanks at least there is one other that is curious about genectics and what makes up the project. I would hope there are more true enthusists.

I hardly think pictures of the hens is going to dilvulge any top secrets in the breeding world of poultry. Especially since you jumped into this thread with talk of your project. No one is trying to take that away from you.

Charlie since your reputation is not that known to me, So I do apologize for that. do you show your birds?

Your good friend that was kind enough to loan you some black hens, are those show quality lines? Or just backyard or production lines? You do not have to name the line I understand that falls into the top secret part of this lol.

There is interest in your project obviously, But There are other sources for Lavenders already available, and much further along in creating type and quality. Just as with the other colors you posted about.

Are you in hopes to try to get this a recognized color for Orps?

I tried to pm you about this project, Since you have decided to post publicly I will discuss it here. Jodi up till now has been a doll and very helpful.

I like to see what other people are working on and I am an orpington enthusiast, but I don't need to be in other people's business about it. If it is something they are working on and the final outcome is something that I like, that is fine with me. Who cares what lines they are from as long as the offspring produced is breed standard. Who cares if they show? I personally am looking forward to buying eggs from Charlie and Jodi when they have some available.

I know if I ever wanted to hatch, I would buy eggs from Jody and Charlie. If I lived closer, I would be mooching off them.

Their rep for quality is of the best and their hatch rate even better.
And lets not even go where the syrup is on a scale of 1 to 100! Let me know when you are selling more syrup. I might need a 55 gallon drum next time. I don't hink we ever used it for other than a slurp out of the jug.

I'm not sure why it matters if the birds they are using are being shown. Just because birds are shown is not an indication of quality. Again, I don't think it's any of our business how they are going about doing it. When they post pictures of the birds you can decide if the quality is up to your standards or not. Jody and Charlie are very nice people, who go out of their way to be helpful. I know they have personally helped me out a great deal.

Anyone that has ever owned, bred, shown and sold purebred stock is well aware that the foundation of the line is of utmost importance. to the fancier. Health, temperament are first and foremost. Cosmetics fall in line after that.

SO please do not assume that by MY asking some basic questions of someone that came onto a public forum and posted of their breeding program, as well as advertised it, that I am intruding into someone's personal affairs. That assumption shows your lack of knowledge of purebred breeding, showing and selling of pedigreed lines.
Another thing, someone only breeding to a standard, is not a real breeder in my opinion, it also takes getting your line out and proving it.

I wish you well in your ability to one day have some color in your flock.
