Crele Orpingtons - PIC's

Shaffer, sure it would be easy to get the colors, but the orps we have here are nothing compared to the orps over there as far as type. It would take forever to get that type in our orps, it looks like we would need lots of crossing to LF cochins to get the loose feathering and such. Getting crele would take a while because orps dont come in either BBR or barred/cuckoo, lots of out crossing would be involved.

His auction was for 6 eggs. I would definitely want more than that! I'm going to try to find someone that will help us do this legally. The idea is to find someone who has a variety of eggs that we are looking for and be able to ship several dozen at a time. I'll keep you posted.

I'd be interested in chipping in on the eggs and buying some. I work in NJ about 35 minutes from NYC so If NYC is the port of call I might be able to help with pick up. Let me know where I can help.

Miss Prissy- you mentioned something about thier buff Orps being different (larger?) than ours? Could you give us a bit of primer so to speak on England's Orps or other chickens of interest! (yeah even the new guys are catchin on pretty quick that your a wealth of knowledge !! and I certainly appreciate your contribution to this board in the short time I've been a member) Thanks, Keystonepaul

Keystonepaul. I am not M prissy but here is a Fav Website that I love to look at pics of Orps on. There are some of the top breeders from Englands pics.
The buff Orps are larger over there. They were created from a a few different breeds of chickens than the black and blue Orps.\\

I have both Yahoo and Google on my computer - I found "Kennfarbig Orpingtons" on Yahoo, but I had to tap "translation" for the English version of the language.

These chickens are beautiful.

1 more to add to my wish list of my future Orpington flock!

US orps could look like those through selective breeding. That is an integral part of the breeding process. It is not just about the fluff, but our "production models" have longer legs and such. Yes, it takes some time but that's what breeding is all about - Taking the time to establish the breed to the type and color you are looking for. It is not impossible by any means and takes dedication, hard work, space, patience and lots of culling to get it right. For a breeder, it is not simply handed to you - it is a passion to get the job done.
