Quote: Lol.. i will once everyone is dry and fluffy.. chick # 2 looks to be all black (not quite out of the shell yet...)
I'm hatching these guys "dry" too.. meaning I have not added any water at all to the incubator during "hatch"
and before anyone has a cow over it.. I hatch DRY a lot of times (incubating dry plus hatching dry). The humidity naturally starts to rise as the first chick pips and hatches. If that first chick has 0 issues hatching then I let nature take it's course.
The main thing to remember about hatching dry is that the eggs must have been on track during incubation.. if they are and have lost the proper amount of weight then I have found (with my methods and my incubators) that adding water at hatch is not needed for chickens or quail.
I get 100% hatch rates.. no sticky chicks.. no shrinkwrapping.. no other issues. But the key is that the eggs must be on track during incubation and that you must be familiar with your incubator and how it works (fan placement especially). Yes, you can add water at hatch if you are really having a fit over it..
I have seen chickens leave the nest with pipped eggs.. I have never yet seen a hen dip her behind in a pan of water and lock it down on the nest for those last 3 days.
So excited to see your pictures! I am trying yinepus method also! 50 years experience has me convinced! My second hatch is due in less than 10 days so hoping for a better hatch than last time!![]()
I am! They are still expanding! Can't wait to see your pictures!!!!Just monitor those air cells.. since you've never gone dry before go ahead and add water for those last three days until you see how they will hatch out. use that as your benchmark for the next hatch
All hatches are different because they rely so much on the relative humidity in YOUR home... so you have to let the eggs tell you what they need and adjust things as time goes by
Adorable! I feel like a chicken grand hen! How was the hatch?
