***Crevecoeur Thread***

Pics
I'd offer some eggs but you are really far from the Appalachian Mountains region and I'm sure there wouldn't be any viable eggs by the time they got to you!:)

Oh, I am familiar with the Scramble Gamble. lol. I have been doing a lot of research, I am coming up with only 3 lines in the US? Is that really all?

I haven't researched lineage of the breed, mine came from a hatchery since I don't show. I read about them and since I was placing an order I went on and got them. Mine may not be show quality but they are beauties to me;-)

We all have to start somewhere!

Hi I'm new to this thread and was hoping for some opinions on my new pullet I just added to our flock. The hardware store I bought the chic from was clueless on the breed. I'm leaning towards a Crevecoeur.

I'm bidding on some crevecoeur hatching eggs on ebay. Fingers cross I get them and they turn out to be nice birds. I still plan on getting some from Sand Hill, but the more chicks I have to start out with the better.

Sandhill got attacked by Buffalo Gnats and certain of their breeders were wiped out when I contacted them about a breed I was looking for. Their turkeys were hit hardest. You'll notice on their ordering website a lot of breeds will not be available for a while as they rethink their program. They were very nice to deal with and would not hesitate to buy from them. My problem is that I can't handle the minimum order requirements.

Randy T:

Looks very similar to my chicken. The store didn't know mine's breed either, and I've been on here asking. Haven't gotten a solid response tho lol
Here are a couple pictures, one when she looked like yours, one from yesterday.

Wow...I think we have the same bird. Mine is a spitten image of yours. I'll post a newer pic by tomorrow and you'll see there very similer. I'm almost at 100% that yours and mine are Crevecoeur. :)

Yep, they look like crevs with their feathers in. I wasn't sure before with a lot of chick down so I was hoping someone more confident with an answer would jump in:) I may have my trio sold this weekend- nothing against them; they are very eady going birds but prefer to stay away from us. I think but am still unsure if the cockerel made a run at me while collecting eggs yesterday. They won't be a year old until October and he's never tried it before but hey, things change. I'm narrowing down the breeds I want to keep before the end of summer- Spangled Russian Orloffs and Buff Orpingtons for LF, Silver Sebrights for the bantams. I'll probably still end up with more than 30 birds come winter!

I do have an issue, tho. I know that being from a hatchery, the quality will suffer. Are white face spots explainable by that?

30 birds...I wish we could have that many. Where we live in tehachapi were only allowed 10 birds per acre...so we have 10. 8 chickens and 2 geese. My family and I are still new to the chicken thing but are having loads of fun with it. Our Crevecoeur is kinda the same...a little skittish and not very social. She's made a friend with our barred rock so at least she has a buddie.
