***Crevecoeur Thread***

Pics
Their looks change from juvie to adult but the colorful sheen stays. The males look like they'd tear someone up but mine is timid with people. He reminds me of classical famous pianist with the long neck and flowing hackle feathers!

I believe my roo spaz has some in him! maybe his traits were recessive and came out from line breeding? Idk but he looks different from any polishes I've seen and the pic does him no justice there's purple, blue and green in the duckwing like an oil slick

I recently got a chick that was the only one like it in the bin for bantams, so I don't know if it belonged there or not, but the only label that seemed at all possible was assorted crested/polish. I posted a picture, and someone directed me to this breed. Could it be one of these? Here is a picture of him(or her). His name is Nicol.

Crevs are great chickens! I would suggest getting some. Mine lay pretty good but stay away from me. I raised them from chicks but they are timid even as adults. For me they are more "hands off" but they are advertised as being friendly. Guess it counts if I've never been challenged by the cockerel;-) The sun shines on them and it is a rainbow of colors.

Is this thread dying? Because reading through it, I would like to get some creves.

PM some people photoing their Crevies to see if you can get a breeder contact. I considered both Polish and Crevies for white egg layers but with two Silkies I decided not to get any more crested breeds. I wanted some gentle breeds to be in the flock with my 2 Silkies but dealing with a total of 4 crested free-range birds was more than I wanted to tackle. My Silkies are forever getting tangled crests or debris in them that I decided against any more cresteds. Still the Crevies are a very nice bird and so are the Polish. Comical and entertaining and sweet.

The crest feathers are different with polish than silkies so less gets tangled. Never had a prob in that area with the buff laced polish or crevs. Did have to trim silkie crest and beard feathers so she could see though;-)

The Silkies are very aware of their vision obstruction and their diminutive size makes them wary about anything behind or above them even when they know it's just us. Most crested breeds seem to be aware of their vision obstruction and seem jumpier because of it. I didn't want to deal with more vision-obstructed breeds although I love them all. The Crevie lost favour with me because they are larger than 5-lb and we are looking to keep all LF under 5-lb and gentle around the Silkies. The Crevies are gentle but the larger size nixxed that choice. Still love them though and truly believe they need dedicated breeders.

We finally decided on the Breda. We chose fluffy feet over fluffy heads for the next white egg-layers we get - to get gentle tempered white egg layers was a challenge and we had narrowed it down to Polish, Crevies, and Breda. We're used to dealing with fluffy crests, butts, and feet and decided the fluffy feet were the easiest for us. We regularly wash and vitamin E oil our Silkie's feathered legs and toes so feathered Breda feet will seem normal to us LOL - and no crest to deal with - in fact, no Breda comb either!
