Congratulations! Where did you get yours? How old are they? I got mine at ideal poultry, and they're super small (Bouillon is about 4 lbs soaking wet, and Belina is probably 2.5lbs) They were born mid October 2012. I'm hoping to hear back from exop as I would like to hatch some of her eggs??

I will say that one of my boys ended up with perfect red earlobes, but he was smaller than Bouillon, so I gave him away. I visited him before he got adopted and that's when I saw his ears had developed to be pure red. Coulda kicked myself at that point for giving him away, as I understand red earlobes are difficult to get. Bouillon's earlobes are turning darker but there are still plenty of white spots coming through.

ive read how they are small for their standard. i was thinking about making a new color or introducing a larger bird in to get their size up to standard. Who knows privett has done really good on other birds ive gotten for a hatchery so heres to hoping they are up to size. I was also thinking of a new color to get interest back into the breed. But if the comb was the only thing i was worried about getting back to.

I believe the dorking is suspected as being in their makup in ancient times. Their body type is supposed to resemble the dorking. However, the dorking has 5 toes and a single comb. They do lay white eggs and have red earlobes though. It would take many generations (read years ) to breed out the feet and a few to clean up the combs I believe ?? Maybe it's not that hard?

Still, that's what I'd do if I had the room, and may do someday if we ever get to move out of the city (my favorite wine - er whine

) I'd need the space to raise loud roos and a good setup to process them, not a small backyard with neighbors that can look down into it, LOL

Just wanted to poke in and say my leghorn, yes, my production only, non-setting Trader Joe white leghorn is broody, so I put a bunch of Belina's eggs under her. I'm not sure how good fertility is, but we shall see. They're kind of at different ages too... not sure how that will work out. I'll have to keep an eye on Henny Penny to see if she abandons eggs as some start hatching? if so, I'll fire up the incubator and slip 'em in for finishing. It would be really nice if I got some pullets out of them and if, since Henny is at the top of the pecking order, integrates the chicks into the flock herself. However, I'm kind of doubtful that'll work out so easily??

Some of these eggs, I put into the incubator with a batch I recently hatched, them moved them under Henny, so it's a mess as far as timing goes. I'm hoping that if any hatch, I can just take them and move them in for a while with my Serama chicks.

I'll keep ya posted, but it's so disorganized, I doubt anything will hatch, LOL.

Ugh, Bouillon is flying all over the place today, and he knocked off my basket of today's eggs from the table, breaking every single one! I'm so angry with him! Ugh! I no longer care that he overheard my husband say we're eating chicken tonight! He's a bad boy and needs to be a little worried! LOL

Well, it looks like at least one egg that my leghorn, Henny Penny, is sitting on is pipped. I could see the little bugger in there moving around! These won't be great Crevies, but I need more egg layers and they might as well be Crevies, right? I am still hoping I can get some nice eggs from exop this year some time. She's not ready to sell yet But I'll be ready when she is

My first crevie chick hatched last night and I vent checked it. I think it is a girl ?? I think that egg was ahead of the others, but I'm hoping not too far ahead that my broody gives up on the other eggs? None of the other eggs have pipped yet, and I have no idea when they will???

Sadly, I had two chicks hatch and one died. I couldn't tell why, but when I looked at today's temperature, it said 103 degrees, so I think it died from the heat :/. I vent checked the living chick and it was a girl, I think, and I think it was the same chick that I saw this morning. But I'm not sure? 3 eggs left to hatch.

Here is mama with her one chick so far. There are 3 eggs left, I hope she'll continue to work on hatching them?!?!

Another update, a third chick hatched (second one alive) and I vent checked it. It looks like a girl to me again??? I don't think I can be that lucky, so I'll be on pins and needles for 14 weeks anyway, LOL.

Another egg is pipped, so hopefully I'll have a third in a few hours? If I get 3 girls, I'd be really happy. It would round off that coop perfectly. I've got 2 more chances, IF I'm correct about the first two?

But you know the saying, don't count your chickens before they hatch, or in this case, before they're 14 weeks old
