Crevecoeur with Lymphoma (5 week old pullet)

Waiting, waiting, nothing at all. :/ She is still about the same, and I am about out of the antibiotic eye drops. I am not worried about that because I figure they ought to have done something by now if they had been working.

Mason jars were what I was thinking, too. :)

Have you called about the tests?
I would be past my patience by now LOL

Any improvement at all with the eye swelling?
Still have any pus in there?

Mason jars are great! I tell you what I use them all the time. I don't have a garden this year but have lots of jars since I usually pressure can veggies too. Those jars can be boiled to make sterile if you want, that's how I do it for canning.

I'll be calling the Vet tomorrow morning, I think the other test wasn't done.
I ran out of the drops tonight, eyes about the same, pus/scummy eye is intermittent, there wasn't any tonight when I was doing the last drop. Poor thing gets easily startled now, even with me talking to her.

Vet was out yesterday (jury duty again), but she called me today. She is still really puzzled by what Buggaboo could have (no coughing no sneezing) wants to save her, she suggested the oral antibiotics, I said I was willing to try... but would she be able to see again? I think the structure of the eye is probably too damaged. I missed bit of what she said but I think she thinks it is too damaged as well.

So she squeezed me in early tomorrow to put my Buggaboo to sleep.

I don't want to bring her in tomorrow, though I know it is the right thing to do. It is no life for a chicken to be mostly blind, it's just so hard to give up. My poor baby. :(

I will update when I learn more. I really hope that there is a definitive answer to the illness.

I'm very sorry to hear this :hugs

I recommend that you make arrangements to send the body for necropsy so you can get further testing/diagnosis of what she was suffering from. Here's a link to your state lab. https://azvdl.arizona.edu/

X2! With all you've been through it would be I want to say nice but that isn't exactly it, but good to know what you were up against. I'm so very sorry for you and your poor hen! Your care and diligence is a real inspiration! :hugs

Definitely not what I was hoping to hear either, but I figured with how long this has been going on the prognosis for her eyes was probably pretty poor. I'm really sad about her though. :( Hens can live a sightless life. I've seen some cases where another hen will kind of become their seeing eye dog and help them around. It would suck though. I certainly wouldn't want to be blind.
I wish you didn't live so far away from me. I want her. :hit She could stay in the house with me. I could put her in a baby bjorn and carry her everywhere.
I do hope the necropsy prices are reasonable, because I want to know what the heck this was that took poor Buggaboo's eyes.

Thanks everyone. The avian pathologist said he would do the work for free, which a really nice thing since he is a really busy man, and I am grateful. I think he is curious as well. My vet will be taking blood samples, so I will see what tests she wants to run on those.

Whoops, I didn't realize I hadn't posted the above!
So, I get home after work that day (it was hard going to work), and guess what I found in my frikkin' e-mail: those test results I'd expected a week ago...!!!!! WTF.
I was SO MAD. But, when I finally managed to open the file (seeing red makes it hard) I saw Buggaboo had tested negative for the mycoplasma. Thank goodness! That stuff is contagious.
But here I was thinking, "At least I don't have to pay $70 for that other test..." and now I get slammed with a $70 bill. Lesson learned, next time I am going to be up their butts and calling the lab every few days! What if it had been results that could have been treated? Always the "what ifs".
Ugh.

One of the worst days of my life.

I was afraid you were gonna tell us the results were treatable. All it told you though was that it wasn’t mycoplasma, right?

That is really awful to be hit with the bill after the fact. So sorry about that.

Did Buggaboo go peacefully? I’ve been thinking about her a lot. Poor little thing. She has new eyes now across the rainbow bridge.
