Crochet "Chat"

Quote:
Is that Reno as in NV or in another state? You're right though. It would be fun if we could all get together and chat and learn from each other. I don't have anyone close to me that crochets either. At least that I know. I guess I could run an ad in our Swap Sheet and see who I'd find. My daughters (3) never got interested. One did take up crosstitch with me for a while and my middle daughter in NC took up quilting from me and we have fun sharing what we're doing via internet.

I have to tell......DH and I are going to Las Vegas on an overnight trip to meet up with my daughter who lives in NC She flying out there for some business for the union and will be there for 3 days. We'll meet her Wed., spend the rest of Wed. with her and have breakfast the next morning before she heads to all her meetings scheduled for 2 days and we'll drive home. It's about 4 hours from here but well worth the drive to see her.

That's Reno Nevada. Both my DDs do crochet and they would love to sit with me and crochet (I only learned because the oldest wanted me to teach her how) but they live hours away! It is fun to share crafts with them but they both have little ones and don't have much free time these days.

CONGRATS on the trip! Sounds like you all will have a wonderful time!

I live about a 6 hr drive from you straight down 395. I'm about 130 miles south of Bishop. My two oldest daughters have grown children and/or teenagers but my youngest has two boys, 11 and almost 1 so she is busy with them and she also teaches 5th grade.

Well howdy neighbor! Even if we split the commute that would be too far to go for coffee and crochet. I have to admit though, I thought about it for a few seconds!

More great work everybody....

Well, I learned the single and the double stitch last night......kinda.

The single is easier, but I like the double better. I'm gonna need a bunch of practice....but it is fun. I really have trouble "turning around" and starting a new row and keeping the yarn moving from the ball to my fingers ...mom is busy tonight, but I'll be in touch with her tomorrow. I like the challenge of learning this...I cannot believe how fast my mom can move her fingers...she makes it look so easy.

eta - I practiced after work a little, but I ran out of practice yarn!......"Hello, Mom......."

I love the dc (double crochet) for making scarves! Whip up a scarf in no time. I too had trouble turning at first, it just seemed so unnatural at first. I've only been crocheting for a couple months and if I can do it anyone can! Just keep practicing, you'll be suprised how quickly you'll pick it up.

Majestic, what a wonderful thing you've done! Now that's a lot of crocheting!

Thanks for the encouragement, yarn buddies. You all are great.

I am having fun with this....not only actually the learning part, but the idea of me crocheting. When I tell anybody what I'm doing, you should see the looks I get.....and last night my mother said "I already had a talk with your brother (47 yrs old) and told him he better NOT make fun of you"....and she was serious. That just makes me smile

....I've done a lot of hunting and fishing with my dad through the years and I'm sure my mom enjoys teaching me something that she loves to do...and I love her teaching me...she was in her element last night....my daughters don't know what to think...this is a little out of character of me (although I do like to help make jams and jellies)...the other project I'm currently working on is refinishing the stock of an old lever action rifle...going to a gun show tomorrow looking for parts.....and I can't wait to tell my buddy that I have to be home by noon so my mom can work on my crocheting with me....
