Crochet "Chat"

Thanks, My mom tried to teach me but she didn't have the patience so I can chain, understand dc, etc. my biggest problem was counting the stitches, so maybe with the brain old oh I mean mature

it can handle it now.
Haha! I'm still terrible at keeping count. DH is forever talking while I'm trying to count or I get distracted and just forget to count. Then I have to go back and count all over again. Sometimes I spend more time doing this than I do actual crocheting. If you can chain and do double crochet you already have enough knowledge to do simple crochet. The rest will fall into place.

I think I will have to get me some yarn. I gave all of my mothers (and boy did she ever have a collection) to the battered woman's shelter when my mother passed, but I kept all of her hooks.

Go for it. I'm like your Mom was. I have a huge collection. Every once in awhile I go through it and donate some but there's so much of it that I'm sure I'm gonna use someday. lol Probably won't ever happen.

Yep. I taught myself (well my Grandma tried but I lost interest) by reading the books. Start with something easy like a hot pad or a simple beanie. If you get stuck on something then go to YouTube. They have a video tutorial for just about everything under the sun. There are a bunch of more complicated stitches I've been wanting to learn and I found videos for them as well. The basic stitches are needed first, you can build on them later.

Folks here love to help too.

Good Luck!
SO TRUE!
Just a few weeks ago I watched a video on there of how to do a surgical hernia repair on a calf, I couldn't believe it!
I love youtube :)

Hi everyone!! I am thinking of doing a career switch from chicken farming to fiber farming. That means I would would raise the animals that provide your fiber. I would sell everything from the animals to spinning stuff to yarn and finished goods. My questions for you guys. Do you buy animal fiber(wool, superwash merino, angora, mohair etc...)? If so what and from where? What is your price range when you do buy? I have the opportunity to buy alpaca fleeces to turn into yarn and rovings to sell. I am trying to decide if I should get it. Also I am possible getting french angora rabbits in the spring.

I buy unwashed sheep wool usually off of eBay I can get 3 lbs or more for $20 shipped. I can also go down the road a bit and buy alpaca wool but it's very expensive. I usually buy unwashed because it is cheaper. In my experience rabbits for wool is not very profitable and you spend more money feeding them etc then what you can sell that fiber for. I card and spin my own wool I have yet to buy any roving, I like to do it myself so I get the thickness etc I want to work with

I was thinking of using the rabbit wool for blending and butchering them as well. Would you buy a blended batt to card and spin? I'm curious
