Crochet "Chat"

This was my first attempt at that M's and W's ripple blanket that didn't work out on the edges. You can see how it doesn't end straight.

then, I frogged it and tried it with DC2tog on each end. No dice. Didn't even take a picture of it. Thought it was working out for quite some time, but it fooled me, so I was back to square one.

And now, this is the lazy wave one I decided to do instead, not as exciting by any means. I'll probably try the other one again at some future date in different colors.

Our brand new, albeit small, Walmart Supercenter opened today in Blue Ridge, Ga, the next town from me, making it the closest Walmart. It's about 13 miles from my house, whereas the next closest and the one I was used to shopping in is in Murphy, NC, about 16.5 miles away. I was holding my breath while walking through it and was so excited to see that, though it was quite small, it has both FABRIC and YARN! They even had the Red Heart with Love in both colors I'm using on this afghan.

I really like the colors you are using! Glad you found a pattern that works better for ya

Thanks! Orange and blue were mine and my sons' HS colors from the two different schools, which I found a fun coincidence. I would like your input on something, though. Would you just use those two colors or introduce another? Would it water down the visual punch if I put in a slightly different shade of blue in the middle, do you think? Or should I just stick to the two colors I have in varying width stripes or same size stripes? Guess that's a second question in there, isn't it, LOL?

I have this color blue as well that I could sandwich in between two of the brighter blue stripes, called Bluebell. I'm using Iris. My gut tells me maybe it would lessen the visual punch. I have cotton yarn in an orange and a blue that I could make coordinating drink coasters and sell as a set, like a football on-the-couch Game Day set, sort of.

If I were going to add a third color, I would use either white or black as a contrast. Using another shade of blue could throw off the "balance" of the afghan. Coasters or a lapgan in the other blue would be a nice accent to it though :)

Ah, okay, I think you're right. Of course, I have neither one of those colors here right now, but I could check back at the new Wally World again. This is actually a lapghan size. I haven't measured the exact length; guess I ought to do that. It's one where you just chain sets of 12 until you like the length and then add 3 chains and get started.

Any reason to buy more yarn is a good reason! I always pick up an extra skein of white or black because I use them so much. It's just easier to pick one or the other up each time I buy yarn and keep it in my stash.

Of course, now I am working on knitting socks so my stash isn't doing me much good.

This is very true! Haven't worked on it today because we were processing cabbage and rhubarb from the garden, but will do some tonight. Black and white are colors I rarely work with in my quilting so I've never really added them to my stash. I do have an antique white in the Pound of Love yarn by Lion Brand, but I think this may call for a brighter white, if I went that direction.

ETA: I did measure the width just now. It's almost 58" wide, wider than I thought, a very generous lapghan, I'd say, if I at least make it 60" long.
