Careful! Another teacher here on BYC did that (crocheted in front of her students) and they all insisted on learning too! Now she has dozens of students that crochet after school and they make tons of things, many of which they donate to the local hospital for the preemies and the cancer patients.

I'm loving all the colors of the squares!! I have 2 sets completed and have to wait a whole 'nother month to send them in!!! ARGH!

In the mean time, since our last child moved out of the house and his room is the biggest of the children's rooms (and has a closet!!) we are in the middle of repainting and reorganizing this room for my fiber room (which is currently holding all my fiber, looms, wheels and extra 'junk'). The smallest of the bedrooms will be my loom room (and still needs to be painted) and the current fiber room will become our guest bedroom.

The squares for the swap are sitting securely next to the couch in the 'fiber corner' of the living room so I can keep track of them.

I just wanted to check in so folks know I'm not lost!

I'm at the age that I love the fall and winter. I don't get outside as much, but it gives me plenty of time to hang around the wood stove keeping warm. I do most of my roving dying in the fall/winter and the majority of my spinning also.

My garden is still going strong and I'm still canning up a storm (114 pints of canned corn last week). I'm done with corn (and green beans, 75 pints) but have been freezing my Roma tomatoes & peppers, dehydrating my herbs & onions for more pasta sauce ..... just as soon as I get half a pig in the freezer and the other half canned. After the pig and the pasta sauce, I'll have a beef to process (again, half in the freezer and half in jars).

I used to always just freeze pork and beef, but after a lightening strike 2 years ago that took out over 40 cubic feet of meat (including $600 of pre-sold chicken), I can up half our meat.

Wow Cindy! You're not busy enough! I think you need to take on a few more projects so you don't have so much idle time on your hands.

:snort:

I have a lot of time on my hands these days since I'm no longer working 60 hours a week outside the house.

I didn't mention the Mario or Luigi I crocheted up 2 weeks ago or the beautiful sleeved shawl I crocheted up this week. (talk about an easy project!!!) Or the milks soaps I've made or rovings for spinning I hand painted this week ... I have to keep busy!!!

Oh we already have an informal club here on campus, so the only danger is that more students will learn

. I taught a guy to make granny squares during study hall last! When I taught public school we had a club and made blankets for Warm up America. Most of the students in that club and the current one are knitters. Often I am the only crocheter present (including our prayer shawl club at church). People seem to think knitting is hip and crochet is old fashioned!

I had to read and catch up on a lot of post.

Well.... yesterday afternoon I loaded up my suburban with 30 cases (360 boxes) of Girl Scout Cookies for my troop to sell this weekend (Cookie Caravan Weekend). Caravan is the weekend to kick off the traditional door to door sales, but customers can actually buy and take their cookies with them instead of waiting for their order to come in like the door to door sales. We have always sold in front of Borders, but ours is totally closed now.

Since my troop is older they tend to do better selling on Cookie Caravan weekend than the door to door selling. They tell me that the customers say no thanks b/c they are waiting on their cute little brownie neighbor to buy from them.

Anyway, we sat outside a place called Orange Leaf (self serve frozen yogurt) which is the new hot spot in the area. It was pretty hopping. A few girls hold signs by the road and a few man the table and hit Orange Leaf customers up coming and going. My troop has been disappointed that the Girl Scouts didn't have cool formal uniforms for the older girls, so last year they all purchased vintage originals from Ebay, but they wear their newer sash with it.

So that is where I was until pretty late last night and will do it again today. I hope to slip away to The Strange Folk Festival (Indie Art) and I have a wedding to go to tonight. I'll be back there on Sun as well.

Jessica~ Have a great weekend!!! Crocheting by the lake sounds like it could be so relaxing, maybe....depending on the teenagers.

I took my yarn w/ me yesterday, but was so busy helping the girls that I didn't get to do much until right before it was time to go home.
Sunny~ I am NOT ready for cold weather either. OMG!!!! I had no idea that winter lingered so long there. I hope we don't skip fall here. It's been wet & cold most this week.

Wed was nice, sunny about 80*. We were freezing last night. Couldn't believe people were buying frozen yogurt in the cold weather.
Cyndi~ Give me some of your energy!!!! Whew...you are super woman. Renovating, crocheting, painting rovings, soap making, gardening, canning, etc. I've never canned meat, only the acidic type stuff like tom base stuff (basil tom sauce, salsa, oh yea and garlic pickles) I'd blanch/ freeze the veggies. I've never had my own meat to process. How nice! So impressive to get so much accomplished. I bet you are excited about getting your new fiber & spinning rooms finished. What do your kids think of you changing their room? My DD is a senior and she keeps asking me if I'm going to change her room when she goes to college.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!!!! I'll try to steal some internet from somewhere while we are selling cookies to drop by and say hello!!!!
