Crochet Square Swap - Completed

OK, Ozarkhen e-mailed me about this swap this morning. It sounds like so much fun! Put me down for a (MAYBE).

Let me see if my MIL can help me with a pattern. If it looks like I can do a pattern fast enough then you can count me in! I don't want to committe unless I know I can do it. If people are running behind, can we all communicate about it to push the time frame back. I'll ask her this weekend.

I love to crochet, but have never done the squares before. I have completed afghans before. My gradma taught me how to crochet when I was little and only played around with it. I didn't pick it back up until I was pregnant with my daughter. I made her a really nice afghan that she still uses today.

So 20 squares that are 6" (that are the same size and pattern) and we have 6 wks. When do we have to tell you a definite answer?????????

<--Doesn't know how to crochet

, I may be in for a knitting one though!!! Thanks for the PM Scrambled. If my mom lived closer, I'd get her to teach me, as it is, I just don't have time!!! I will look forward to your pics though!!!

I, personally, use Dogpile as my search engine as it encompasses google, ask, msn and others all in one search engine. I typed in "free crochet patterns" and also "free crochet granny square patterns" and got lots of hits. They even have a tutorial on you tube for those of you who aren't stuck with dial-up

That is where I will get my pattern for this. Smitty's Farm is an amazing crocheter...her afghan is gorgeous and very complicated. Granny squares can be extremely simple and beautiful for beginners.

The afghan on the cover of this old book is one of the most interesting ones that I have ever seen. It teaches you all sorts of granny square patterns. As you can see, it is very cheap to buy.

I made it when the kids were young out of leftover yarn and still love it. I often think about making another one someday. The best thing about it is that if the squares aren't all the same size you just add crochet around it to make it fit. It allowed for alot of 'beginner's' mistakes.

If you'd like to see a better pic, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Mary Ann

count me in im somewhat an okay crocheter so I should be done in 6 weeks ill start today woo hooo cant wait Gina:clap

I've never crocheted a granny aquare but Mom keeps trying to tell me how LOL.
She can teach me live over Easter weekend. So put me down as 'in'!

Well well well....I gues I am in on this as well. Whew, we have 6 weeks! LOL That will work out for me. I just have alot going on now...but...im in!!
I think these will make beautifull throws. I crochet ALOT!! Well, I used to...now I do needle point. Pillow cases and table runners. Guess I can set those aside for a few weeks! LOL
OK, time to dust off those crochet hooks ladies!

I was thinking... I know I know, I wont hurt myself... We could pin a piece of paper that has our name and contact information on it to each of the squares we make. It would be a neat way to not only be able to tell who made that square, but also to be able to contact each other. Just a thought.

OMG!!! I am so thrilled with the response!!! What gorgeous afghans we'll end up with given all the talent in this group!!

Someone asked about re-iterating the guidelines, so in brief, they are:

1. 20 crocheted granny squares completed by each member
2. Any pattern that you choose, just do all 20 in that same
pattern
3. Colors are your choice, any are fine
4. All squares need to measure 6" x 6" for better joining
5. Wednesday, March 12th (evening) is the last day to sign
up
6. Squares need to be completed and sent to me no later
than May 1st (I'll pm each of you my address)
7. When your 20 completed squares are sent (yes, you can
do more if you'd like, they will be evenly dispersed with
the rest) they should be in a padded envelope or a box.
8. If you are using a padded envelope, send another with
your own address on it and the actual postage on it. If
you want them sent back to you in a box, make sure I
have your address and send the exact postage and I'll
mail them back in those free priority mail boxes from the
post office. If this is confusing, pm or email me when you
are ready to ship them and we can figure it out together.
9. Everyone will receive the same number of completed
squares..an even distribution from all contributing.
10. It will be your job to join the squares into a final product
and of course..post pictures!!
11. We'll figure a way before they are sent out to label the
squares so we all know who made which ones.
12. These two sites offer alot of instruction on granny
square crocheting and may be helpful to crochet newbies
13. No one will be criticized for their work and everyone's
work will be included in the distribution.
14. Fun and alot of chatting about your progress is
mandatory!!
