Crooked Beak

I have the same problem. I have a cross beaked Quail Antwerp Belgian (still a chicken) who I also have been specially feeding. It is much smaller than everyone else and spends the whole day trying to eat the normal chick food. I don't think it really can eat but it has lots of energy. It will fly on to my hand because it knows I feed it. I have just decided to give it time and see how it does but has your cross bill grown at all? The one I have is about a month old but still has the body of a very small chick but with large wings. What do you feed yours? I have been debating about what's best to give it and am now trying boiled egg. I would really love to know how your cross beak is getting on.

I happened across a post about crooked beaks a few weeks ago. I saw it was common in EE, and I gave it only a little thought. Since Cadburry hasn't been handled much lately, I looked at her from a distance, decided I wasn't seeing a cross beak, and stopped worrying. For some reason my husband and I started talking about her again yesterday. I cornered her in the run, and finally saw it. Not the most severe, it is definitely crossed. She eats and drinks, and she has her own protector (a production red that I bought with her. He was SUPPOSED to be a hen. Oh well). I am going to keep her until I see a problem I can't handle. Ditto with Red. I have two hens including Cadburry, and SIX roosters. Red is so good to her, it would be stupid to cull him when I am getting rid of roosters next month. I am hoping for the best for her. I know chickens aren't human, but they do have some feelings, and I think Red would go crazy without his buddy. I am going to get some chicks again soon, so I am hoping he bonds with them better than he did with my initial six.

If the beak can be trimmed up it could help. My friend has a pretty bad crooked beak on his hen and thats what he did. It helps her beable to eat sufficiently. Shes aboult a year and half old I guess. She looks like a normal chicken size with a slight crook left from where he trimmed it. I dont know if this helps but trimming the beak isnt hard from what I saw.

I understand how to trim a beak. I also understand I would feel terrible if I cut too much, and hurt her. I really need to start handling the chicks again. Maybe when they are used to being held, I will be more comfortable with trimming her beak.

I have an old hen whos had a crooked beak her entire life. Just recently my 2 yr old brahma has developed a crooked beak. What can be done to prevent it from getting worse?
