My chicken, a 12 1/2 week old Rhode Island Red, has crop impaction from what I can tell. Her crop is huge, and was so last night (when I first noticed it). I decided to wait until this morning to see if it was still big, noticed it was (after she ate, dang!) and it's very hard as well. I'm hoping I caught it early but I'm not sure. I didn't even know what crop impaction was until I googled enlarged crop to see if it was a problem.
All I have is coconut oil in terms of oil... If I liquify it will that be ok? She isn't co-operating and letting me look in her beak, so I haven't seen if she smells or if I can see the hole to the lungs.
She is still eating, seems vital, and even pooped a bit, at least, so I can't imagine this is in late stages or anything.
I have no idea how to massage a crop or administer this oil, so any help asap would be good. Right now she is just in a crate with another crate on top with water. I put a towel down so she won't eat anything, poop on anything, and not have to walk on a crate.
Any words of wisdom would be helpful!
