Crop issues need HELP!

Yes it was a day after the surgey, but it wasent because of the surgery she had just gone without food too long and her body started shutting down and buy the time I realised that I needed to start tube feeding her as we were only able to get so much into her with a syringe, it was too late. I was devastated and felt soo guitly for a very long time afterwards. The surgery was 230 dollars but I didint care at that point cause all I could think about was that I had lost my precious girl and she was soo friendly and cute, she was a frizzeled silkie girl as cute as can be and very docile and kind to other birds.Honestly from your discription of what's going on with your girl, I'm thinking she might have a partial obstrucion?, like a clump of shavings and food is slowly working it's way around this but it of course ovious it need to come out?

I have great news Polish Hen, but I also have bad news. My chicks crop was flat this morning, on its own. The bad news is I could feel what I think are a few shavings in the crop. So all the grass, and other stuff that was stuck in there is gone. The only way those shavings can come out is surgery, right?

Otherwise my baby is running around eating and drinking and such a happy girl.

Makes for a good start to the day!

Best start I have had in 2 weeks!

Now if I could only convince my niece, a vet, who lives 4 hours away, to operate.
There are no vets close by willing to see chickens. Their best advice, "euthanize the chicken!"

I'm assuming she doesn't have access to food in the morning? If not my suggestion would be to isolate her over night on an old towel or paper towels to get a good look at her poop. You can do it inside the coop with a dog kennel or a temporary chicken wire fence. When it comes to crop issues catching things early is important so it's best to rule a problem out. Let us know what you find.

They have food out 24/7. Is that bad? I thought when they were growing you did that? She's the first and only one to lay so I don't want to stress her because I'm over reacting. I just checked them all and she's the only one with a full crop.

Wasn't sure If I still had it. I did bookmark it. Figured I could probably do this if I had to.  When you are at the point when she will die otherwise...you find great strength.

Wow! I just saw and read that thread! Truly amazing! I don't know if I could do that. But if she can do that, why wouldn't a trained vet be willing to do that? Crazy! Thanks for sharing. If it comes to that, I will find the strength.

Mine too.

When I need to check a crop I have to make the loving, touching, squeezing appointment early-early before they leave the coop. Best way for me.

Well, since chickens don't usually eat at night, I put their food inside so mice, cockroaches, etc can't get into it and contaminate it with their droppings. But then again, I have a tiny coop, and wouldn't want them to poop on their food and water, so I give it to them every morning and remove it every night.
