Ive been working out the best way to make a great egg laying chicken thats suited as a pet. Im planning to use a combination of silkies, minorcas, and cream legbar chickens. I want to combine the unique and dramatic looks of the silkie and minorca and also have blue eggs (which cream legbars are the most genetically compatible with passing to straight combed chooks) silkies also contribute great personality and minorca and legbars are historically well laying birds.
Sadly though Ive only got tons of planning and research but no actual chickens. Ive never had my own space for raising my own birds especially since I left the farm. So if anyone has these chicken hybrids I'd be glad to see them.

I was considering what i would get crossing Speckled Sussex with Buff Lace Polish. I really want speckled polish but have no idea what genetics are involved. Anyone ever try this mix?

Well you could get a speckled polish that way but thats assuming you have lots of resources. Buff laced polish dont have much in common genetically past being gold based. Id explain more but im on my break

Alright guys, my first round of crossbreed bantams are going into a new friend’s incubator soon. Anyone want to make predictions while we wait all these long weeks?

Sires: btw or btb Japs

Eggs came from: silver pencilled Cochin, black Cochin, black Jap, btb jap, bbr OEGB, gold and silver Sebright, black Sumatra, blue wheaten EE.

Crosses I’m most looking forward too: Sebrights and EE, the OEGBs should look similar to seramas by my best guess.

I’m wondering how the Sebright patterning will come across. And if the EE cross will result in light olive Eggers or more likely just pale blue/tinted eggs from any pullets.

Also ordered Modern Game and Sultan bantams to add to the crazy cross breeding happening here. They’ll arrive in April, so no chicks from the until at least October, or even next year.

Oh what a fun thread. :D
As soon as my hygrometer gets here and calibrated, I’ll be attempting to hatch some eggs. I can’t wait to see what I end up with. My two roosters are gorgeous Easter Eggers and my hens are Leghorns, RIRs, Golden Comets, PBR’s, and Easter Eggers. I suspect that my 2 roosters were Ameracauna hatchery rejects so I’m praying that the blue egg gene runs m strong in them. Either way, I can’t wait to see what babies hatch out. :love

My handsome boys, Sebastian Bok (L) and Rocky Rooster (R).

So by my best guesses, I have a black Sumatra, a silver Sebright, two blue wheaten EE, 2 silvered and 3 fawn colored OEGB (from my BBR pullets) mostly crossed to my black tailed white Japanese male, though the buff Jap could have fathered some, though they aren’t showing many of his traits.

Anyone want to make guesses as to how they’ll turn out? Probably very Serama-esque in terms of wild colors and upright shape. All chicks appear to have normal length legs, yellow skin but the Sumatra, and a mix of pea combs and single combs.

I bred a Black breasted Red OGEB hen with a black tailed white japanese bantam rooster, and got a cross. He's kinda spunky, but he's a very sweet rooster. I'll try to get a picture sometime soon. I also bred the same roo to an easter egger bantam hen that I got from McMurray Hatchery, he's also very sweet. I'll get a picture of him, too.
