Cross Continental Friends!!!

A friendly warning on the muscovy.....I hear how much people just love their sweet sweet muscovies and I once loved mine to, but the problem I have experienced and read about is that they are so so very unpredictable. I had a pair, the drake killed my chickens, was mean as cuss to the hen, and the hen flew away all the time, I was just starting to get the hen to friendly up when she died, but the point is they started off as pretty good ducks, but then the drake became mean and nasty.

But again, I hear great stories about them, just sharing my experience. :)

Well I would only be getting a hen and they would be in an aviary during the day and in the octagon coop at night. How did you have your nesting box. I'm giving her my drakes so all they have done is shi$t in it. Do you have a raised edge on the front to keep the shavings in? This one doesn't cuz we thought they needed to slid in but now I think we can add a panel in front for the mess. Anyone's comment's excepted! Be nice now! lol

Actually you would be ashamed of my duck house, lol, it's not like your's, I just have them in a big fenced in run and then my brother and I built a miniature shed type building that 3 and 1/2 walls, a roof , open bottom but sits on the ground and a door that I leave open during the day for them to walk in and out as they please but will lock them up at night. I let them dig their own nest and keep shavings and hay in there.

Well, GM to you, I'll be popping up & out also! lol I'm trying to waggle the DD into going to Wolfboro to p/u 2 silkies for my sizzle & my Silkie but their sisters and I don't like that. I'm trying to see if the guy has another so I won't have to worry about them crossing the fence! Then on Tues. I want to take a trip to Clarksville 85 miles (100approx.) your way, to pick up my pekin hens and maybe a Muscovy duck and bringing her my 2 pekin's and my male silkie. He also has to go to the hospital for a sleep study Mon. night! So his docket will be full! lol but he loves me

And I love him a whole lot more! No one can measure how much! ;)
Is that the clarksville the monkies refer to? Take the last train to Clarksville? Sleep study? Does he not sleep well? I have a duck dilemma guys. I keep thinking on and off about getting rid of the ducks and just keeping chickens so I can have a nice pond. But the runners I hatched, well I love my 2 girls and even jemima out of the 3 heavy breed ducks. They are my little friends. They talk to you and are so sweet. I don't think it's fair to split them all and just the my girls as they all love each other. Angus my bf has a friend who has a friends who has a farm and said they'd take all of the ducks, boys too. I don't know how I feel now about getting rid of all my babies. I know if I hatched chickens I'd get attached to them too eventually. Any suggestions? Our garden isnt the biggest so really need to cut down somewhere.

Beth, he's 62 yrs old so they want any and all $ that they can from him. No his heart has a bump so their just checking everything. And I'm sure the Beatles found their way to Clarksville! lol With woods all arnd I think she's loaded w/ all types of bug's ;~) The Muscovy's are babies, the pekin have had the summer alone on a pond. Hopefully she catches them by Tues. I'm waiting for a answer on the silkies. He has sisters but I don't want sisters so I said her or friends. Well see what he says

Quite the problem!! I totally relate! So either way it'll be hard to choose, but I would keep the girls, and maybe one boy in case you ever want to hatch the eggs again, I just got rid of some boys and the girls are rather happy the are gone.Chickens are fun, but they will scratch up your garden, just a warning. But yes you will have a cleaner pond and if you get bantams, they will fit even better in your garden, hey that's an idea, slim down on the ducks and then you get a few bantams, and they will both fit!!

Yeah I know you've mentioned before that ducks are better. I don't think the ducks have done much damage to the garden really but yeah it's just the pond thing. I want lillies and stuff and they ate everything. Unless they just have the paddling pool again. But that seems a bit mean after they've been used to a deepish pond. Hmmph.

I'd lose the boy's cuz they can't be w/ a girl, if they mate them. Yes, chickens scratch up the yard, but how much do you garden. For me it's not that much cuz the weather's not good. But you can close the garden off or the girls off from them. They can live in a kiddy pool just fine. Go w/ t he girls and buy a peep when you want one!

Yeah I'm tempted to do that Nancy. I'd just feel so mean splitting them up. Especially the big ducks as they are close. Though jemima isn't as close to the other 2 biggies as they are to each other.

Oh, I understand. Tues. I'm taking Paris up to Clarksville to be adopted. Luncheon meat along w/ my 2 Pekin Drakes but what am I to do. Can't keep all the boys! I'll cry when I give her Paris. He's a silkie that I could carry around like a doll. She (he) would be so quite and calm I was so surprised when it crowed a few weeks back and that growth on his head. Wow that just popped right out! I still take him arnd w/ me to do my outdoor chores. He just eats his grass and hangs out w/ me. He's just started acting like a boy by chasing the girls. Just last week, I kid you not he's 5 mths. I havn't had them as long as you but you do what your heart tells you to do.
