Cross Species Illness

My old dog has recently started having really loose stools. I have had chickens living in close proximity for eight weeks now. The chicken has been dewormed, etc. Is there anything that can be picked up from a chicken? I know that horses living close can contaminate chickens with some type of spore that grows in their habitats. The dog will eat chicken poop in a heart beat and the chicken free ranges the yard. I have not put out any poisions, etc. Suggestions?\

I'd take a fresh, never frozen stool sample from your dog into a vet. Dog's can get Salmonella and Giardia from poultry (so can you). Both are easily treated with different antibiotics when caught early enough.
