I'm new to the Lahore breed so I'd love some help.

I have a pair of black, which will...be black.

But then I have a trio. I know for sure the silver is female because she laid eggs and is currently sitting. However, there is a dun and a black also in there and I'm not sure which one is the male. I thought that the dun was the male because it's huge! But the black acts more masculine.

So. My question is, what will i get colorwise if the dad is black? Dun? Some of each? Something new?

Thanks! So far I'm loving the docile nature of these pigeons. I'd wanted Jacobins or capuchines but there was only 1 for sale and it was unsexed.

I would recommend that you should be ready for surprises. I started out with solid white homing pigeons. This is a quick peek of a few off spring. I even have a few blue bars that hatched from solid white Belgium bred pigeons.

With lahores the color patterns should be fairly consistent unless you have a female who flies at large and stops in at a feral pigeon bar.

I think Lahores are beautiful! :thumbsup You have some lovely examples. I think the black could be male despite smaller size. There is a lot on pigeon color genetics online if you want to get into it that deeply....

You are right in that your pair of blacks will most likely give you blacks (theres a small chance you could get blues but its such a small chance)

---

If the male is the Black you could get;
1. All Black, Cocks carrying Dilute
2. 1/2 Black, 1/2 Blue, Cocks carrying Dilute
3. 1/2 Black, Cocks carrying dilute and 1/2 Dun
4. 1/4 Black (cocks carry dilute), 1/4 Blue (cocks carry dilute), 1/4 Dun, 1/4 Silver

#1 is probably what you're going to get, #4 is possibly but extremely unlikely.

If the male is the Dun you could get;
1. All Duns
2. 1/2 Dun, 1/2 Silver

---

Either way you have really pretty birds, I've been loving the look of the lahores for a while now, but I've got my hands full with birmingham rollers, damascenes and chinese owls at the moment to even think about expanding lol

And there IS actually a pigeon genetic calculator for pigeons! (made by Henk, the guy that made a really amazing chicken one, not sure if its the same one you mean)
