Doh! I just noticed the weight in the corner. In California, that is a steal for a pastured raised chicken.$36 CAD = $27 USD / 6 lbs = ~$4.50/lb.
Especially on an Island, compare to Catalina in CA!Doh! I just noticed the weight in the corner. In California, that is a steal for a pastured raised chicken.
I would buy from her and not bother raising my own!Doh! I just noticed the weight in the corner. In California, that is a steal for a pastured raised chicken.
Those are some great looking results. What do you sell them for per pound?
You are certainly not price gouging, from my viewpoint! I am from Seattle, if you were on any of the San Juan Islands, you should be charging 2xs that!Whole birds are priced at $13.90/kg or about $6.30/lb, most of the whole birds come out to $35 CAD each, which is priced right between premium free range conventional, and the high end certified organic prices locally. I could definitely get away with charging more, but don’t want to price gouge too much. Also with 6 lb birds there’s a little sticker shock. Plus we adjust the margin on the parted out birds to raise the overall gross profits.
Whole Birds $6.30/lb
Bone in breasts $7.20/lb
Boneless Breast $8,60/lb
Boneless Skinless Breast $9.95/lb
Thighs $4.95/lb
Drumsticks $4.50/lb
Wings $3.10/lb
Soup Bones $2.60/lb
When I get smaller birds we may adjust the pricing somewhat. We were aiming for 4-5 lb birds. Everyone told me I would need to go at least 12-14 weeks with the rangers.
How many birds to aim to sell every year? If I had more flat land and natural pasture, I would love to do what you do.Whole birds are priced at $13.90/kg or about $6.30/lb, most of the whole birds come out to $35 CAD each, which is priced right between premium free range conventional, and the high end certified organic prices locally. @Kris5902 you are definitely doing something right because not only do your red rangers end up fairly large so did your Barnvelder a month or 2 ago.
Here in AZ, I have seen Organic chicken at Safeway for ~$8.00/lb. And we are in the equivalent of the Australian Outback for the USA!
