Let me know how you do! I would love to see pictures of your birds too. Your pompadour silkies, right? Your birds are awesome! Do you happen to have any black cockerels or roosters for sale? I have been selling paints to buy a good black boy. I have been culling boys like crazy here!

Yep, Im Pompadour Silkies:) If any of my birds make the cut or place I'll be quite happy with a show of this magnitude. Thank you very much for the complement. Sorry:( Joe I had a handful of blacks for sale and I sold them. I understand about needing a good black boy. Its hard to find blacks without smutty hackles. Makes the job harder finding them because this issue is prevelant in both males and females but girls dont show the issues only only males. If your culling black boys with off colored hackles you may actually want to look at the parents. If the male is clear more than likely the female is not. and there could lie the troubles. Hope that was helpful:) Again thanks for the complement!

It is so hard to find a good black! I hate having a good black develop golden hackles. Do you have any good blues then or maybe splash? I need a good boy to breed to the pullet in my avatar. Anything at all?

I am having a fantastic black delivered to the show and am so excited. I took the advise of someone on this thread and he will be entered instead of sitting in a sale pen. I wish you luck in finding a good one they are few and far between. I will be showing my Showgirls and a few silkies just for kicks and giggles. My focus is the Showgirls!

Can't wait to meet everyone.

Why yes it is. I agree. Old established breeders of those good blacks are nary to be found. And to be truthful some breeders today do not keep pens seperated. This gets bred to that and quickly colors are intermingled and then never again to be the same. All I can say is do your best keeping pens straight and your added best to keep good hatch and breeding records along with identification on the birds. If you buy blacks, male and female. And the hackles problems show in the males sell them off as pets.Do not tempt yourself in using them as breeders. Black girls are tuff to identify as culprits but as many poor hackled boys you may run across I'd say the odds are pretty good that the females are just as messed up. Its slim to none for females to show off colored hackles as they dont. The bad trait is exhibited in the males. And unless you are able to test hatch unknown females with clear black males it makes running a breeding line difficult. Sounds like a crazy on going circle doesn't it? I suppose that any unknown girls could be bred to blue and possibly then if any bad hackled males will crop up you will know if the hen is fine or must go.
If your breeding blue and splash stick to blues and splash breedings;)
Hope that was helpful:)

I have it from the horse's mouth that someone will be selling Modern Game Bantams at Crossroads that have the dark combs, eyes and legs like this picture of an English bird.

I looooove the way these look. I'm just not sure I can afford to get any, this year especially. But, aren't they cool looking!?

Super! Keep the word rolling! I have one BF hen, two BF drakes, and several youngsters from this year that I am holding back for now to commit to the qualifier. The original mate for my one drake who is now owned by someone else will also be showing up for the qualifier.

I have 2 blue fawns..At least, I think they are blue fawn... No idea of quality, but they are cute....But I show Silkies...

They are out of grey and a pastel parents...

Grey and pastel could throw a blue fawn. Pastels usually pop up from blue fawn/blue fawn matings. Pictures we could see? If they have no obvious DQs I'd bring them, because even if they don't win, they will be part of Call duck history. Every variety has to start somewhere.
