Last fall someone dumped these 3 little girls in the woods near my house and i found them walking in the road. I called the SPCA and they said they were so full of kittens they may have to put them down. I couldn't keep them as I already have 5 others but decided to try to give them a chance at a good life. I cleaned their goopy eyes and gave them multiple baths to clear up the fleas they were loaded with. I then took the cutest picture of them and printed color flyers with my computer - noting on the flyers that they had been dumped. I posted the flyers on the public boards at my local grocery stores and vets. I had the first call before I even got home from posting and the next day all 3 had good homes! A cute picture and a sad story are the best tools! Good luck with yours and God Bless you for caring!

You're not alone. I found a kitten in the woods a few months ago and he's turned into my Lucky #2.

I recently had a cat runover. His name was Lucky, and he was a black main-coon mix. Only five-years-old.

But Raiden (the new kitten) is a lot like him. He can't replace Lucky, but he sure can act like him! He won't eat outside unless I'm right next to him, and he has the same hunting instincts.

And we named him well. Raiden means thunder/lightnight, and it's also the name of a search-and-destroy game. And that's his basic mission in life.

But, not everyone's impressed with his cuteness. Our nine-year-old turtle-neck Dancyr is having a hard time coping with the fact that she's not my "only child."
And our four ducks don't like him, either. Kupo, our agressive male, will run smack into him! And Momo, our other agressive male, is his backup. Even one of our females, Baka, joins in, trying to bite his tail.

And our 26 chicks think its great fun pecking his tail. And the poor kitten can't play with any of the animals. Dancyr hates him, the ducks try to eat him, the chicks are too fragile, and the gerbils are in a cage. Poor Rai....

But he's getting alone fine. I hope your kittens do well!

Today I had to give them all a bath and cleaned out their box and put a fresh quilt in with them, they had poop every where and were really gross, after they dry completely and fluff up i will post some up dated pics of them. And hey I think i am going to sign up for that secret swap, and give you guys a kitten!!

I am joking, my luck I would do that and then someone would send me a dozen more in return. Hope fully we will get these guys fattend up a lot more and i pray that they dont end up in a bad home agian. I might try the flyer thing, they really aint a part of the animal shelter yet so may be I can just find them a home my self. I dont know yet though. THese poor kittens I cant believe how much they trust me, they were actually purring while I was bathing them. Never had a cat that would not try to rip me a part while I was trying to give them a bath let alone sit in it and purr. Very strange cats.

I haven't read all the other posts because there's a lot.

The kittens have an upper respitory infection. Easily cured with eye ointment and medicine.

Go to your local pet store and get kitten formula and a bottle (kitten sized bottle). hold the kitten one at a time on your chest with the kitten on it's belly and feed it.

DO NOT give the kittens cow milk. Cats are lactose intolerant. Forgive any misspellings.

Be careful with the kittens around your other cats, the kittens may have the herpes virus or FIV and those are contagous. Once again forgive misspellings.

Well one died last night. He had been doing so good and then all of a sudden he quit eating. And then he died. The only thing I can think of that may have happend is my 4yr old son was holding him the night before and accidentally dropped him. I dont know but it is very dishearting. He was the gray and white one that I think was in the second picture. He was not the one with eye troubles, and was doing fine until yesterday afternoon. The other two are doing fine though. I am syarting to get them to eat milk from a dish now instead of the bottle. The one tortise shell kitten has it down good. But the other one hasnt gotten the hang of it yet. I have not been giving any dairy products, just kitten formula. They are kept in our garage and away from the other animals.

We couldn't afford to keep giving the kitten formula to a little 3-week-old drop off my dd found in the woods (Raiden, above). I'm glad Wal-Mart sells it for only about $3.50 a can (as opposed to the first can at $7 I bought at the pet shop) but it was still too much for us at that time.

I called the vet and they said to make the following mixture:
1 can evaporated milk
1 can (refill same amount) of water
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon honey

I did buy some cat vitamins from our store, and crushed them up and added them. He LOVED that mixture, and did very well on it.

Later, I added it to soft bread, or kitten food, and also added leftover meat and sometimes canned tuna.

I wish I'd seen your post earlier. I guess they are about done with the bottle? I found the kitten bottle very difficult to use, and he never liked it much. A small syringe worked much better. I could control the flow rate better and it didn't frustrate him as much. But by now I suspect they are about ready to start lapping, and you said one was?

So sorry to hear about the one that died. I hope they don't have anything that can endanger your other cats. I agree with the post that said a good pic and a sad story are the best way to find new homes. You could also try craigslist or freecycle, but kittens usually go slowly on those.

Good luck with the little ones, and I'm glad you took the time and made the effort to save them. I can't let any little ones just die either (which is why we now have a second cat!) ... I hope you find good homes for them.

I am way late to this thread but just wanted to say I'm sorry and you are a good person to try and help these poor little guys.

I just have no words strong enough for how completely vile some people are. (Well I do, but I'd probably be kicked off the boards for using them!)

Not spaying or neutering your pets is just unforgivable. And in the case of an "oops, " I'm sorry but 'man up' and take responsibility for finding them homes.

People make me sick.

Good luck with your remaining guy! I hope he makes it.
