Crushed Chocolate to Chickens?Crushed Granola/Cereal Bars to Chicken?

Hi,

I am completely new to the world of chickens. I had a few questions about feeding chickens.

Can chickens eat crushed chocolate bars, if the particle size was correct? Would it be completely wrong to do so, or can it be done in moderation, like 2 feeds a month?

We always have tons of Granola bars and other breakfast cereal bars that are about to expire. I know these cereal bars are good in protein and vitamins. Can we crush them to small particle size and feed them to chickens?

hmmm, I don't know if that ammount of sugar is good for them, but for sure the granola is awesome for a chicken. If I were you, I'd eat all of the chocolate out of the granola (sigh... the things we do for our pets) and give them the rest. (seriously, how can you part with even a morsel of chocolate?

)
I know for sure they shouldn't eat potato peels. Someone on this forum said potato peels were very toxic to a chicken... other than that, pretty much anything goes. They're like feathered goats.
I make my girls little yogurt parfaits with honey yogurt, granola or uncooked oats, and berries.

(spoiled I know) ... and there's a lot of sugar in sweetened yogurt, and the berries have natural sugar, but they seem ok, so I'd guess it'd be fine for them to have granola bars.

Just remember, chocolate is toxic to most animals. So, sacrifice yourself and eat the chocolate to save them.

Please don't!!!! Due to chocolate, salt and additives, it would be dangerous!

Find a charity to donate to...Like a Boys Club/Girls Club, emergency shelter .

They can use these and no harm will be done to your chicks.

I get the message Chocolate is bad for chickens and animals in general for the sugar in it. But I always thought Granola bars would be just fine. Too bad, many of them have chocolate on it :-(

I have a question on the LARABAR's. The apple pie and the cherry pie seem like ok to give to the hens? I have really ever only given my hens 'whole foods'. Meaning the piece of food that we grow or buy in the produce section of the stores. Besides the scratch. I do feed them popcorn and I feed them their own eggs (scrambled).

These LARABAR's show the ingredients to be dates, almonds, unsweetened apples, walnuts, raisins, cinnamon, unsweetened cherries. The sugar content 18% for the bar I would think would be because of those ingredients, not because of any added sugar since sugar is not on the ingredients section of the wrapper. I know... call me stupid to trust a label, that's how I am..... (not trusting labels), but I wanted to put something like this in a suet and attach to the fencing that surrounds them.

Never never and never feed your chickens chocolate. There are other foods that aren't good for them like avacados, dry rice, citrus, candy, dry beans, salty foods, onions and any kind of junk food. My birds do love cheetos and yes I give them one or two, but not very often.
