Look, ultimately this is your decision to make. If it's worth your time and gas, then go for it. I have used plenty of less than ideal birds when breeding, but, I have tried to compensate the fault of one with the strong points of the other-, or, simply, breeding a good bird in one area to a less ideal bird in the same trait to hopefully improve the quality in question. I can't predict exactly what you will get from breeding these birds, you may get some nice ones, who knows? I have seen some very nice Cubalayas from the hatcheries. I have also seen some total junk, too. More junk than nice, but, the nice are still there. If you buy a boxful ( 25-30) You may end up with a nice trio. Maybe. Or maybe not, that's the trouble. Everyone has culls , but, if you bought , say a trio of birds from a breeder for $75, you would have from the start some nice birds. If you bought a box of chicks at a hatchery, you would spend, say , roughly $100.00 on the chicks plus shipping, plus whatever you put into them in feed and bedding, and you may, or may not end up with anything good. I guess my point is that if breeder birds are to had, you are better off getting them if at all possible, assuming that they are indeed better than the hatchery birds. I would say the birds you are thinking about are roughly hatchery quality, hard to say since I can't see pics from all the angles, but that seems about right. If they are gifts, and you are up for the drive, then go for it. You can always buy more birds later if you like the breed.
