Cubalaya, it looks like you got an unusual one out of the gold duckwing cock! I hope you end up with a few nice GDW cockerels, and a nice SDW pullet or 2!

That young stock looks real nice cube.

I put my breed pens together a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. I started collecting eggs the week after. The first hatch of the season came off on the 21st.

I'm not getting many eggs yet, but they'll be coming soon.
So far I've got a couple of Wheaten girls laying, Blues, and Silvers.

Surprizingly, my Games are laying too.

Lucky you, down south!!!

Although, we had 16 degrees last week, it was 60 degrees yesterday.

If this warm weather continues, maybe I will get my hatches out a bit earlier for 2012. Most of my hens are still molting though.

saladin,

so far the only thing laying is pullets... Mostly two duckwing pullets, but the blacks are starting to pump them out. Let us know how the Silvers look.

I'll keep you posted. I've got a beautiful Blue hen in with a two year old Black cockbird. I'm hoping for some real nice ones this year.
The Blacks lay better than any others I have. I hope they do for you too, Zach.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Cubalaya-are the bottom 2 my brown reds? Do they show much red/gold in the neck? I can't tell from the picture, although they seem to have filled out very nicely! How large are they?

Saladin/Cubalaya-I have 3 blacks left from cubalayas fall hatch, very interesting birds for sure. Large , stocky, strong birds with very heavy beaks and heads. The oldest cockerel just started crowing.

Hope you guys and gals too, all have a very Merry Christmas!!

yes they are the ones that i got from you. the smaller one in the back is almost completely black, just a few gold feathers under her beak but only about 2 lbs.
the other has more gold and is about 2 and 3/4 lbs.
the blacks are heavier than they look. stocky.
