You guys are having to much fun with this.

I never realized how many people did not know about this. I have not looked at the youtube videos, but the way I do it is to place a chicken on it's feet and gently bend it's head over and place it's beak on the ground. Then I draw a line in front of it's beak and gently let go. The bird will simply sit there staring at the line totally paralyzed until you bump it or make some kind of noise to startle it. Have fun!

One thing I wantmention about my Welp birds is their attitude. They do fit the description I have read about cubalayas being brave and friendly towards humans. They are not like Games at all. When I would go in the pen with the Game pullets and cockerel I raised last year, they would go nuts trying to get away from me. Not these Welp Cubas. They are very different. Some of them walk right up to me as I bend over and just stand there as I put my hands around them to pick them up. Never seen a breed like this. The two little Ideal cockerels follow me around like dogs as I do my morning chores. At first I thought they were hungry, but they will still follow me around after I have fed them till they can't eat no more. They are always under foot and I have to really watch that I don't step on them.

i think as we use more broody hens and less incubators that they will increasingly be more tame and brave around humans as cubalayas should be. the birds that i have from gallorojo are very tame and seem to enjoy my company. they have to learn everything on their own when incubated.

that is exactly how my bantams are except my hens and pullets are flighty. so i get much better luck getting tame ones from the incubator, and my birds arnt broody

I find un reliability among hens here for brooding. I hatch and brood all artificially except the occasional hen that hatches three of four. I get many broodies but they kill chicks, or leave the nest. I gave up on that. I like to have a good solid group to choose from.

Forgot to mention that my birds still behave the same as what has been mentioned. They don't even need handling to get them used to shows. They are curious and elegant, and are interested in anything and everything at the same time.

More on my Welp birds.

As they get older I am noticing some differences and wondering what they mean. They just about all look alike except for a few. I have two cockerels and one pullet that have white faces. Here are some examples.

In this picture you can see one of the other cockerels with a red face.

Here is the white faced pullet. She also has slate legs as do a few of my other Welp birds.

Here is a the way the rest of the pullets look.

I am just wondering what these differences in face and leg color mean.

Hmm the birds I have that do that are usually golden or silver duckwing, which could explain the blue legs. But they don't show the usually saddle/hackle color
