Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

These couple pictures are taken of my computer screen, so color is unnaturalized (twice actually). These photos show birds hatched in 2009. The cockerels I believe were actually shipped out of state. They may be in the lines of my birds outside of CA. I really liked the height of the first male. These would be half Brush line.

The color of the first pullet is shown in my previous post a little better.

I also see her earlobes POPPED white... They were light but that is a color enhancement from the darned photograph...or photographer.

no. crow head is a long beak mostly on the hens. i have a crow headed brown red hen but she is so big and tame that i will continue to use her. his beak could be shorter but not that bad.

Cubakid- I have a hen that is almost identical to the female pictured at the top of the page that I really like, her beak and ears are not the most ideal but her size and type are super, so I keep on using her. :)

Fowlsessed , that guy I would not call full on crow headed, but for a male the beak is long. The males naturally have shorter beaks, so just be careful with this one, as his daughters may have unacceptably long beaks. I think it's ok to use an otherwise good bird with a longer beak so long as you pair it with one that has a nice short beak. Of course ideally both would have strong heads and short beaks. The tendency for this breed to produce longer beaks has always been there and it has been addressed in the Brush and the Bayliss article on the breed. It's something to watch for and to strive for good heads should be our goal.
