Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Also, I have one that is what I would call a chipmunk pattern with brown on the back and head. What is that going to look like as an adult?

Patterned chicks with stripes etc- males will look the same as wheaten(basically), will be BB Reds. Females if fully striped will look like brown leghorns or welsummer , if they only have a few faint stripes or dots, they will look like darker wheaten with golden hackle.

Pyle is complicated because I don't know how they've made it for sure. Probably would get some pyles and some wheatens, but impossible to say for sure just by looking at them. You'll have to try and see.

If I can jump in here, I have Red Pyle and Wheaton BBR from Sandhill. By breeding the BBR Cock in my avatar to a Red Pyle hen, I got both Red Pyles and BBR Wheatons . The Pyle cock in the background is one of the results. I am now on my 2nd generation of that kind of breeding with the same results.

if they made them with dominant white then you would get half and half generaly depending on how many white genes they have
if they were made with blue then you will get blue red
if ressesive white then you will get bbred
it is most likely dominat white based on what oldhound said and that it is from tha same place plus most pyles are created using this

Oldhound,
What is the weight of that Sandhill cock? The reason I asked is that I sent Glenn a bunch of chicks several years ago to help him get the weight/size up of his stock. It use to be that a Sandhill cock was coming in around 2 1/2 to 3 lbs at best: excellent type but small. I just wondered if size has improved? doc

The cock in my Avatar is from Glenn is a 2010 hatch and weighs 6 1/2 pounds . I have only retained cocks in the 6 + weight range and hens as close to or over 4 pounds, culling everything under those weights. Type and size has not stabilized yet but getting better.
