Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Here is a nice silver wheaten pullet, 1 year old. She is out of a Saladin cock and a gallorojo hen.

I've always wondered why some of our best birds are in the non-standardized colors. It is exactly the same with mine. Best hen on the place is a Silver wheaten. Best cock I've ever owned was a Indios Cenizis (Blue Red).

Hi all, so I've spent the better part of the last two days reading the last 50 or so pages here. (I'm in Louisiana and we have been home due to icy weather of all things). I really like what I see and hear of this breed. I just ordered some from Welp, of course that was before reading the fate of jungle's bird. My daughter is super excited about showing them in the local fair and in 4H. I look forward to learning much from you all.

good luck with them and post some pics

I just got an email that they are sold out, and I placed my order after speaking to them on the phone. Not sure what I'm going to do now. I don't know if I should wait for their next hatch or try elsewhere.

I saw that you all don't usually ship chicks, and I was concerned about shipping eggs, adults or juveniles so far. I have no experience with that. (I did order goose eggs a few years ago and none hatched). If anyone has anything and it would be ok to ship please let me know.

Kaella, what state or region are you in? there are more breeders on the 2 coasts, but there are a few of us scattered elsewhere. My birds aren't anything spectacular yet, but are very tame. My kids are doing 4H showmanship. No bird struts for a judge like a cubalaya rooster. Mine always put the crowd in stitches at the county fair. They really bust their buttons hamming it up.

I'm in Louisiana, about 30 minutes east if Baton Rouge. We haven't done showmanship yet, this is her first year. Is it difficult to learn? The parish show was last weekend and her Mille Fleur D'Uccle hen won reserve bantam. It was a very small show, but we were excited. The state show is tomorrow.
