These chicks were all hatched this past week.

Here are my cubalayas today. I have equal number of darker-themed ones, and lighter-themed ones (sorry, just what I'm calling it). I'm totally new to chickens, let alone chicken genetics to begin with. Are these color themes linked with sex, or as they feather out again in a few weeks will I not even notice a difference between the two themes, or what does that mean if it means anything? As far as sexing by comb and behavior, I have yet to notice any differences yet. I do hear some attempts at crowing from the brooder but I have yet to catch who it is.

If those are BBRed chicks, you have male and a female there. The darker one is the male.

You are welcome. With BBReds, as soon as you see the first dark feather, you know it is a male.

The black hen is estimated to be 15 years old. The rooster is 1 year old. No eggs yet and I'm not sure we'll even get any.

where did this hen come from and what line is she? I hope you get some chicks from her
She is from the original line of blacks that came from Cuba 75 years ago. I am doing everything I know to get some chicks from her.

does she have 5 toes? I ask because of the feathersite article on blacks. also does she have one or two red feathers?
