Cubalaya Thread For Sharing Pics and Discussing Our Birds

Pics
Hi, okay I have been doing some reading and have seen Cubalayas often being referred to as Cuban games. So they aren't "true" Cuban gamefowl? I have been looking up stuff about true Cuban gamefowl but not finding too much on them. I saw a few things about Cuban gamefowl being referred to as red cubans, doms, etc. So those are the "true" Cuban gamefowl then?

I don't think they are Cubalayas; at least not pure ones. (That doesn't appear to be a peacomb on the stags).

Here is what they should look like (type-wise):

This one is about 7 or 8 months old

I have 3 games that look like the 3 girls in the last pic.

Could I possibly have Cuba hens?

Coloring is wheaten, but she's not a cubalaya. She's an American Game hen.

The following are a pullet photos of a hen I have:

Notice how the tail is always held below horizontal. This is a must in any cubalaya. When they are aggitated the tail fans and lifts a little but still remains below horizontal. They have unique feathering, like the scales on a lobster-tail, their feathers layer over one another.

Ahhhhhhhhh huge difference.

Ok now I need to find out what all my Games are. LOL

I girl can hope though.

Do you think the cross between the 2 breeds would be good with any of the hens in the pic?

I'm going to try to find out if my girls are all just crosses of different game breeds or if I actually have something I should work with, but I really would like to add some Cuba blood in there.

Correct, Cubalayas are not Cuban Games. Never were/never will be: totally different breeds.

Red Cubans are an American Breed of Gamefowl that were developed from imports from Cuba by George Means over a century ago.

i made that mistake once calling cubalayas, cuban games and got straightened out on it. cubalayas are not 'game' but cuban games are. wouldn't you call this a gold wheaton?

cub,

Maybe, maybe not: it is really difficult to say. I have some golden wheatens, but they generally have alot more gold than than one does. I also have some straight wheatens that show some gold in the hackle (female) like that one does.

All I can say is breed her and find out.
