Cuckoo Maran Rooster x (breed here) offspring?

If you saw this larger BA roo at a show, chances are he came from a good breeder who has worked on breeding for size, where did you get your BAs from? Hatcheries just breed whatever will lay and don't really concern themselves with the correct size, body type, and color of the birds they sell. Whenever possible, it is best to get your birds from a breeder who knows what they have and what they are doing. That would really help you improve the size and quality of your birds. As for who to breed, just simply select to few who have the most desirable traits and breed them together.

Your Silver Ducking X Black cross sounded about right, you should have gotten mostly black chicks with probably some white leaking through, what the SDW roo a thin gamey type bird or a large breed, there aren't many standard large breed SDW colored breeds, the only on that comes to mind right now is a silver grey dorking.

I got my Black Jersey Giants and Black Australorps from Murray McMurray Hatchery. I see what you mean there, although I've heard a lot of reviews from people who have ordered from there and their birds have won at fairs/shows. I guess it depends on what birds you end up with. I found out that one person with the big Australorp roosters is a breeder who has won at a lot of places. So you were right, but you probably already knew that, lol! Oh and I referred you to someone here on BackYardChickens. She's trying to figure out something about her mixed hen that looks like a Blue Cochin, I hope you don't mind...

Do you know if all Jersey Giants have yellow feet? I know they have to to meet the standards, but I have one black hen that weighs 10 pounds, meeting the Jersey Giant standard hen size, but the bottom of her feet at white. Her eyes look brown like a Jersey Giant too.

My Cuckoo Maran Roo has 3 offspring that are now 10 months old, 3 beautiful Hens. I'll take photos of them tomorrow and post them here for you to see. Here's what they are from:
Cuckoo Maran Roo X Buff Minorca Hen
Cuckoo Maran Roo X Rhode Island Red Hen
Cuckoo Maran Roo X White Leghorn Hen

Yep, I believe they should have yellow feet but again, that goes back to hatcheries that don't breed to the stantard.

And no I don't mind if you refered a friend to me to try to help, I'm usually pretty good at analysing a mixed bird and picking up on what it could be mixed with. I haven't heard from her yet though, I assume she will PM me?

Are the ones from the Cuckoo X White Leghorn hen cross barred too or are they white? I believe most White leghorns are Dominant white which would, when crossed with other breeds, produce chicks that are white with random black spots over the body, is that how yours are?

I had referred you to her about 15 minutes ago, and I don't think she was online. So I guess eventually she will PM you, I hope. If one of the parents of the offspring is a mixture of two breeds, and the other parent is pure, then the offspring will be a mixture of three different breeds and cannot be shown?

Don't know if it will help, but I have 3 chicks that are G Cuckoo Marans roo X Delaware and 1 chick that is a G. Cuckoo Marans roo X Black Star... they are all barred.

So wait...does Cuckoo just mean Barred? Instead of saying Barred Maran?

Lemme get this straight...Barred is just another color word right? For chickens that are grey/white?

Yeah cuckoo and Barring are basicly the same gene, but the cuckoo pattern occurrs in rapid feathering breeds, the rapid feathering causes the barring to be blurred, so the bars in the cuckoo pattern are not as crisp and distinct as they are in Barred Rocks, So technically, you can't call them Barred Marans since their is a little difference in the appearance of the colors and the standard calls the color cuckoo, but the genetically, cuckoo and barring work the same.
