Culling a chick??

RIP Crip! I'm sitting beside an incubator with a deformed baby of my own. It was hatching using the back of its head instead of it's beak because of the way it's head was twisted around, and it wouldn't have hatched at all if I didn't help it. One leg is longer, swollen, and positioned almost on it's back. It will never be able to get around to eat or drink, so I'm taking the garden pruners to it's tiny little neck later on, and thus continues the circle of life.....

I had to do one recently. Used the sharpest pair of scissors I could find and decapitated it. It was quick and, I felt, as humane as it could be for a chick that was already suffering. Not fun, but had to be done, so I just did it as quickly as I could.

Oh Nicole it's NOT lighter fluid, it's STARTER Fluid like you use for the lawn mower. This is what I use. Very fast, quick and I can hold the little guy calmly and stroke his head and he dozes off in about 10 seconds.

I'm sorry about your little one I was really worried about losing some of my hens this time around because the last group I had were broilers who seemed to die easily.

I fed a couple of my dying broilers to my snakes. Not really an option for everyone I guess, but they died quickly and at least they went to good use.
